ebay exhaust systems?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

On the muffler, why is there a small hole were the exhaust gases come out, instead of being open? I don't like the looks of that. I was thinking about buying this exhaust and i am now having second thoughts.

its a silencer so the exhaust isnt loud, take that off and its strait through

my apexi came with the same thing, take out the bots and it comes right out

Jeff any pics of that xtune, before install and after?

It looks like the FWD guys have nothing to worry about with the gaskets and bolts, its all there. The one pictured above is the one I saw myself on a friends. Quality piece for the price, but I guess the pics speak for itself, and when you see it in person I was in awe that it was so cheap. But hey, its just pipes anyways, maybe it shouldve been this cheap all along. :)

There is a matching downpipe also, the welds are just as nice, stainless steel also, straight thru cat eliminator, and has a bung for o2 sensor! I believe its <$100 + shipping.

WTF

are you serious, i need a 3" dp to bolt up to my apexi catback. I wonder it the flanges are the same?

you happen to have a link?

I got the same system.. hopfully Ill be putting it on tomorrow. I dont have access to any type of cutting tool here at school so Im hoping all of the bolts will come off with a little PB Blast. Heres mine, just came earlier today. The high for tomorrow in morgantown is 27 tomorrow, so this should be fun.

good luck with that, i can tell you from personal experiance you will never get them off with just pb blast, your going to need either: Torch, cutoff wheel, or sawzall, esp with the cat bolts

again good luck:thumb:

It says you have an n/t, i dont know too much about those, but if you have a GST, and have the apexi catback that is advertised as 3", the part that connects to the cat/downpipe necks down. So if you havnt modified it yet, then YES the ebay 3" downpipes will work because it too necks down to fit stock catback. So they match up.

It goes great with the Xtune/ebay catbacks for the very same reason. And also one of its downfalls. It's 3" then necks down at that section. But an exhaust shop can cut that section out and have it a full 3"

just search "gst downpipe" you will see several, for $40-50 + shippping which comes out to roughly ~$100, combined with the catback, for ~$250 shipped, you have a *3" turboback (asterik is because it necks down where they connect) for $350 shipped. Spend a lot of money you saved to go to an exhaust shop to modify the section that necks down so its full 3".

i do have a nt, but i just bought a 96 gst this week to get ridd of the esi, no aftermarket support + maxed out turbo 420a = 4g63

90% of my parts on the esi will bolt onto the gst

i have the 3" gst apexi catback on there, walbro 255, gsx front brakes, ect ect

sorry i should have been more clear with my post

I'd be more than willing to post pics of it on the car/undercarage shot. But I didnt have a camera with me while we put it up. Plus its hard to get pics with the dumb snow outside:notgood:

Those links don't look too bad or overpriced for a catback. I paid 120 for a 3in cat back + universal muffler out of ugly pipe for mine and spent another 120 on a Megan 3in DP. To me a 3in pipe is a 3in pipe as long as the welds are good.

I just got done installing mine. I like the sound and it looks decent mounted up, the only problem Im having is that now the check engine light is on. It doesnt make much sense since all I did was remove the o2 sensor from the old pipe and put it in the new one...

Another thing to look for are the exhaust bottling up at the flanges down to 2.5. You can lose power by the inch bottling down. Thats why I plan on getting a Buschur exhaust straight through and its a TRUE 3" setup. Though that is a decent looking setup and a good price. Hope it is the real deal.

Already covered, from the replies. All it takes is a quick trip to a muffler/exhaust shop pay a few bucks and it too should be a TRUE 3" setup.

Reset the ECU, it might be a fluke.

Im not sure if there is much of a power increase. I def feel a difference in the upper RPM range. Once in a while at WOT itll hesitate in the mid-range, Im not sure if there is a code being thrown or not.

I got the xtune exhaust like 7 months ago, but it's 2 3/4 inch that goes down to 2 1/2 inch to the muffler..> I would like to know if that JAPANIMPORTSHOP exhaust is also angled like mine.. I prefer the tilted style like the one I have now, but Mine is just way too loud because I am running a straight through down pipe cat eliminated and no resonators... thanks,

Mark

Wow $200 for a full exhaust system.... how does it sound guys?

so far it sounds great. Deep tone and at higher RPMs it really doesnt scream. I also have the stock DP and cat... and you can see it basically has 2 mufflers and a res. Im gonna get that first can taken out when I get a 3in DP and testpipe... thatll change the sound drastically Im sure. Ill get some pics tomorrow

Ok I went and reset the ecu and that took care of the check engine light. Its also running normal now and I can feel the performance gains. I really like this exhaust. It sounds really good. Not at all raspy and when youre in the lower RMP range its real deep.. reminds me of the STi's. I want to try and adjust the angle of the muffler tho. I want it to slightly angle up like the real N1s do. It angles out to the side but it comes straight out. It doesnt look bad but IMO I think itll look a lot better at a slight up-angle

Yeah I found that out real quick. Everything was so rusted out that there was a buildup in the bolts and I couldnt even get a wrench on. I just went to the Monroe shop down the street and had them cut the 3 bolts on the rear section and loosen the rest up. I started installing it from the back to the front. When I was putting on the last section to the cat I found out that the bolts on the cat are too big for the holes in the flange. So back to Monroe I went. All-in-all I spent $90 at Monroe, which I think was well worth it bc it saved me a huge headache and got it done fast. So you figure $218 for the system and $90 for the install... not bad

I had the xtune catback and i hated it. It droned liked crazy. I switched to the 3 inch magnaflow catback, high flow cat converter, and downpipe from ebay and it's been bliss ever since.

Hey SEMPRINI, so you bought the one from [email protected] correct? That link showed a totally different one, actually it shows one without the second muffler on it, but I REALLY DO HOPE IT HAS THE 2 MUFFLERS and the resonator.

I Actually just ordered one through the same people. They charged me an extra 35.00 saying that it costs more to ship to Hawaii, but it really doesn't... well, he said that they are going to be shipping it by "AIR" I hope it's 2nd day air ### 135 is a lil high for shipping.. so I paid a total of 258.00 shipped... I paid around the same for my XTUNE 7 months ago, the one in the picture above, but that xtune one was just darn loud.. I have a cat eliminator 3 inch down pipe, to that xtune system. I think it is because it doesn't have a resonator or a second muffler on it, plus it is crush bent 2 1/2, so the loudness definitely wasn't worth it specially for a 2 1/2 inch system advertised as a 3 inch..

I really hope [email protected] ships me the same ones as you guys got. Also, HOW DID THE HANGERS FIT?? Were they all in the correct location??? Thanks!! maybe post a pic of it installed... kinda excited to get it, so I can have a quieter car!!

Thanks,

Mark

Yeah thats who I got it from... It does have two mufflers and a resonater, I have pics posted on the first page of this thread of the entire system in my living room. I think it sounds great. Im looking into gettin the megan downpipe and my concern is how much it will change the sound. They ship from cali Im pretty sure. Thats why its a little more expensive, its not their fault. The only problem I had was the studs on the cat dont fit into the flange on the pipe, I just went to a muffler shop and they removed the studs and replaced them with the supplied bolts. All of the hangers line up fine.

Hey Semprini... Do you know if the Megan Downpipe eliminates the Catalytic converter??? LOL, ### I bought an ebay Downpipe as well, FULL 3 INCHES and It ended up by passing the cat! I forgot the brand name but it was stainless steel. Pretty much, if you want to keep your catalytic converter, make sure you buy a downpipe without the HANGERS welded on to it, that usually means that it bypasses the cat! I don't know,.. it just caught me by surprise when I got my downpipe, ### I also ordered a bolt on high flow catalytic converter that I ended up selling to someone else ### my downpipe eliminated it.! Thanks for the info! I called [email protected] and they told me that it only has one muffler and one resonator.! OH well, I hope it comes just like you got it!

Also, when I installed my downpipe to my current exhaust system (xtune 2 1/2 inch crush bent piping without resonator and only one muffler, a 4.5 inch tip N1 style, Since it also eliminated the cat, it was a huge change! It started to drone like crazy and would cause like a pounding sensation in my ear, but that could be because my xtune exhaust never had a second muffler and resonator. I CANNOT WAIT TO INSTALL the exhaust you have! I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot quieter! It Being mandrel bent will make it much quieter too!!

thanks

Mark

I hope this thread turns into a good one-like the ebay FMIC thread.

I bought my first Catback off Ebay, and its just as good as the day i got it..no cracks etc.
Its looking a bit dull, but i started polishing it up today as i plan to sell it :)

Im looking for a 3 Inch Catback (fwd) on ebay now..so all imput will be appreciated.

@Markangel
Im also very Happy with the Megan racing 3 Inch DP i got off Ebay as well,i ordered a 2.5" and got a 3" cat eliminator DP, i was very very happy :)

Edit: has anyone seen a 3 Inch Catback that has a straight exit ?

Are they all slanted to one side?

And-do they go under the axle or over it like the 2.5" does?

yeah the megan dp cuts out the cat. Im goin to keep the stock dp and cat for when inspection time rolls around. I need emissions in my area and it sure wont pass without it. Youll be happy with this system. The people you talked to are prob referring to the first section being the resonator. Look at the pics in this thread, it looks more like a muffler due to its size.
