well, i'm doing my first build ever on my 98 dsm and have been doing reserch, but can't seem to come up with the easiest path for tuning and best bang for my buck. Link, Ceddy reflash, or EVO scan(evo ECU) or other. i'm guessing most use dsm Link, and it looks as thou Ceddy re-flashing is incomplete, so i leaning towards getting an evo ecm. just looking for some feed back. thanks for the input.

I use all on various applications. I have link in my 1gs and run a modified version I made of ceddys Rom in my 98s. I learned how to tune on flash/evoscan so im biased in that I like it better than link.

For someone who knows little about tuning, link is a good plug and play system that pretty much guides you step by step through the process, however, price is 3x the cost of flash if you compare new to new. Evom has a great writeup on anything flash related, and with $200 being your only expense to tune if you have the flashable ecu, I personally recommend going that route. The evo ecu isn't worth swapping in my opinion as ceddys can do almost anything youd want.

I also only paid $30 for my tactrix 2.0, so I had $50 tied into tuning my 2gs rather than 600+ for link.

Most any software is good to tune with. As long as you got good control over air, fuel, timing, and whatever other miscellaneous crap they pack into there software you should be good. Ecu flash, swapped ecu's there all good to tune with. As I prefere ecmlink that is just my preference. Just buy whatever you can get a good deal on it will work for you.

When it comes to tuning as stated above anything that can change the air fuel mix is good, but if your asking what is the best bang for the buck then the answer is the DSM link. For under a thousand dollars you get everything to tune your DSM precisely. I have used a Haltech when I owned a Grand National in the 90's, I used the HKS VPC when I owned a 89 Toyota Supra turbo, and an Apexi AFC, then the Link on my 92 talon TSI. Hands down Link is the best. I live in Toronto Canada and have spent some time with Magnus performance and they use Link better and easier then Emanage or anything else. The future is now with the Link!

For the price and capabilities you get for that price: ecuflash. Specially if you're the type to do one tune on a certain turbo and don't need to fiddle with it every two seconds. That way you sell the cable and only pay 25$ (evoscan) and possibly 20$ (for big maps) in the process you'll maybe loose 10$ while selling your cable. A fully tuned ecu with fun features for 45$ and still being able to log using evoscan, can't beat that!

so if he was to toss up a log from his flashed ecu would anyone be able to help him out besides people that are flashing?

Definitely. A log is a log, the information is the same. Someone who can tune with link can tune with flash.

I would say flash your ECU, but since this is your first build and you can use all the support you can get, I'll suggest DSMLink.

I would flash it since you already have the 98 ecu to do it. Just purchase the tactrix 2.0 cable and download ecu flash.

Also a thing to consider, if you're not very familiar with flashing, a ton of shops that tune/flash evo's and subies can help you fine tune your setup. Of course this will cost money for dyno time or road tuning, but in the end it can be safer for you assuming the shop is experienced/reputable. Something to think about. Edit. Just saw that your from the mitten state, if you need help finding a good shop experienced in flashing pm me. Cheers to a fellow michigander the most helpful dsm people I've yet to meet!
