Hi guys/gals this is my second post as part of this awesome community. I have purchased a clean 2G Talon (95 Auto AWD) which is nearly stock aside from exhaust, MBC, and boost guage. Iam a little confused about how to proceed with my mild build due to the sheer amount of different information being given to me LOL. First let me start off with saying my hands on mechanical ability nearly non existent other than small jobs such as oil changes, brake pads ect ...so this is why im keeping the build very mild because every mod I do the car has go to into a shop which costs $$$$$.

-I have recently purchased a 14b turbo + install kit, and I was also going to throw on a manifold and upper IC pipe /1bov during this time.

Questions:

Basically guys i want to know how much I can SAFELY get away with using the new 14b & stock fuel system without employing DSMlink.

-Using the cars stock fuel system and NO tune is there any point of doing the 14b swap, Manifold, and ic/bov mods? (I will be keeping the boost at a absolute maximum of 14-15psi)

If tune is needed can I affectively get this set up tuned by someone with a Apexi S-AFC piggyback or so I absolutely need DSM link?

-Would there even be a noticable performance gain with a 14b @ 14psi with stock fuel system????

I would absolutely upgrade your fuel pump. I promise you that installing a pump and redoing the wiring is something anyone can do. Plus, it's super cheap to get a good Walbro. I think you would need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator though. To answer your question, I don't think the stock fuel system would be able to handle that. my first 1g was not able to handle those mods on stock fuel. You can find a million people selling that stuff (often new) for cheap.
 
With any modification you would want to have something to adjust the tune or at least something to monitor your engine to make sure you aren't doing it any harm
plus when trouble shooting problems the information from something like dsmlink can come in handy
 
You can swap in the 14b and run 15psi on the stock fuel system, I just sold a 99 GSX that I did the exact thing and ran great. You can do all those mods without needing to tune. The stock maf can compensate enough to cover that amount of boost.

Being that the stock tune runs pig rich, I wouldnt doubt this one bit.
 
At stock boost levels, just rewiring the fuel pump will be sufficient. Although, a 190lph or Evo fuel pump could be considered as well. These pumps are much less likely to overrun the FPR, unlike the Walbro 255lph pump. To your question, many would not bother with any tuning, but it is best to learn on a smaller setup. The S-AFC is fine for your current goals if you can get one cheap enough. With ANY modifications tuning or not, I highly suggest you get yourself a wideband to monitor AFR's.

The reason why your seeing many suggestions to get ecmLink is because it is among the best tuning options for tuners from beginners to advanced. Don't think of it as only a means to tune, but also for logging and troubleshooting. For a new tuner, this is BY FAR the best solution. The cost can be shocking to some, but considering the benefits, it is actually a fantastic buy. Being you have a 95, you may already have the E-prom ECU needed.

I am with miliman13, about learning to tackle these tasks on your own. You would be amazed at what you can do with the right guidance and common sense. There are many resources. If this is what you would like to do, just ask, and you will be pointed in the right direction here.
