kelowna,
so on the weekend got my car dynoed and tuned, well at least half tuned gotta go back and get the rest done.but i wasent happy with the results since how much money i have put into my engine. i got 230hp at around 18psi of boost.thats without touching the timing or ignition, just have it retarted 10 degrees on the msd.like i dont understand ive herd of guys hitting that at 8psi?

Which turbo are you running? Larger turbo's that flow more air will give better HP than smaller ones at the same boost pressure.

Not to mention, 10-degrees is a lot of timing ontop of whatever the stock ecu is doing. See if the guys at the dyno can figure out a way to see what the stock ignition timing is at idle, and then again at WOT. I'm doing the same thing where I'm trying to find the stock igntion timing curve and use the msd box on top of that.

FYI: when I got my car back from the build and put it on the dyno, I had the boost set at 9psi, and they started with 16 degrees of timing taken away, I looked at that dyno pull and it recoreded 165ish whp. The added 6 degrees back into it and my results shot up to 202whp Timing plays a big deal, and for right now the tuners were playing it safe rather than sorry.

Edit: So for clarification you put down 230whp w/ out touching the timing at all? Or did they start with 10degrees retard and you put down 230?

actually it was at 14 degree retard, im not fully tuned yet im going back next weekend
but i thought i would clear 400hp no prob with my setup. gotta be all in timing.i put it down to 8 degrees and kick in at 4000rpm, so far working good dont hear any knocking or anything and can feel it faster.

HOnestly man, I've been searching for a while now, and at least on 2gnt it seems there really isn't one right or wrong answer. A lot of guys don't even touch the timing because they don't have anything to adjust it with, and the guys that do seeem to only go about 3 or four degrees at their max boost level.

It really goes from car to car, and so your best bet is to put it on a dyno and do a pull, lower the timing, and do another while making sure your not leaning out at the top end. or anywhere along your a/f curve.

ya sounds like a good idea. i just wanted to see if i could do anything myself till i go back to the dyno, but i understand play it safe. ill just leave it at 8 degree retard till dyno time.

so when i went to the dyno and got 230hp at 18psi, i know that is extremly low plus with my setup. it could just al be in timing, it was at 14 degree retard! could there be anything else im overlooking?

I doubt it, I'd say timeing all the way.

most constrictive thing you have is that 2.5" exhaust and cat. But it should still net you over 200whp at around 8psi or so.

Good luck. Try a couple pulls w/out timing adustments (or just a couple of degrees), and with a lower boost level and see what happens.

ya i should fully get it tuned this weekend hopfully.
i have no cat in my exhaust just straight.
with my setup what should i expect to see at around 25psi with all the right tuning? like what are other guys getting out there at what degree of timing and at what boost?

sorry to hear about timeing issue..u should be well over 300hp at those boost level with your setup..goodluck on your next dyno run.
