Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

Yup. 6 bot swaps are common.

No one has ever used a full 1g drive train on a 2g though.

and it seems like every other person has a 6 bolt swap (not that i know what the hell i'm talking about)

if you all could clear something up for me... 1g's came with 6 bolts? 2g's came with 7 bolts? and what in the world is the difference? so maybe i'll know what i'm actually reading about. :)

1989-1992 They used a 6 bolt motor (Referring to the number of bolts on the flywheel.

Halfway though the 92 Production year, they switched to the 7 bolt motor.

The motors from 96-97 were the most prone to crank walk due to a factory error. :)

What I am sick is what I have made to be obvious above. I am beyond tired of people telling everyone to "do some research". So before anyone decides to hope for a certain engine, we must spend time doing proper research on every motor Honda-kids use for swaps. Then we must indulge into finding out their top-speed, quarter-miles times, ease of swap, etc...

That's just dumb and no one will do it. I see this all the time. We will research things we are INTERESTED in. So please, spare this forum.

Sorry for the thread pull up but,

Researching something before you make authoritative comment is far from "dumb". Some people get mad when they get VFAQ'd but the information is out there and it cannot be spoon fed all the time.

I totally agree that if you are not interested in it, don't research it. That's a gimme. On the other hand, bashing something that you do not totally understand, now "That's just dumb".

the "bolts" difference is the different number of bolts that connect the flywheel to the crank

"so i use to have a 1g and i heard you can like take the stock turbo off and port it to a 16g and get way more power....." ummmmmm NO!!! you fail haha, and i love the VTEC posts, damn honda boys!!!

Him: I was into the DSM's a long time ago, got out because it was getting to be an expencive habbit.
Me: Nice, so what DSM did you have and what DSM do you preffer.
Him: I had a 1996 talon.
Me: You do any mods to it.
Him: A few, after the ecu went I just sold it.
Me: ECU problems are common for the 1g's and 2g's. Why didn't you just get a used ECU.
Him: Didn't feel like it, just decided it was time for a new car to mess arround with.
Me: Please tell me you have some pictures of this 2G that your willing to share.
Him: Sure do (he pulls out his phone)
Me: It's a 420a non turbo.
Him: It was a turbo model.
Me: There is no turbo in that engine bay, all I see is tubular headers LOL.
Him: The turbo is at the back of the engine close to the ground.
Me: Why is ther no intercooler and I can see a filter on it leading to the intake manni.
Him: The 420a was the fastest DSM that was put into production.
Me: Ya if all the gs-t's and gsx's were broken on the assembly line LOL.
Him: I know this from experiance man.
Me: (I walked away and got back to putting my external trans cooler on my talon)

I couldn't help but think this random guy walking down the road that stoped to look at my DSM got that picture from the web or a car that he just happend to see that he thought was cool. I think he might of been trying to act cool and fit in with the DSM's by saying stuff like that. To bad I knew different and called it out in a nice way.

I'm in the military and someone I work with (but higher ranking) wanted to grab some grub off base for lunch earlier this week. I ponied up and told him I'd drive and of course he had to make an ignorant comment on the way to Subway...

"I used to have a Talon like this but it had two turbos, damn thing got me too many tickets so I had to sell it. It was a bit faster than the Eclipses though."

All I did was bite my tongue and agree, ignorance is bliss I guess.

:dsm:

STAB STAB STAB!!!! i love the talon to eclipse references and how one was always faster than the other from factory.... FACE TO PALM!!!!

Ok, so the new dumbest thing I heard was a couple weeks ago I was getting my 2g towed because I had some wiring / fuel map issues I needed to sort out after my car was at English Racing for a downpipe fab. The tow truck guy asked about my 2g and how much power it had. I said about 500+ when I get the map correct for E-85. He started telling me about the evo he is buying with a car payment of 150 bucks a month. After that he said he was bringing his evo NEW back to English racing and Lucas is going to put twin turbos in it for him... I stopped talking after that.

If one more person, DSM'er or not, says anything about Mitsu making a twin turbo 4g63 anything, I'm going to kill someone.

My Talon came stock with 3 turbos, but I decided to take one off.

*Watches the news for any stories of DSMers gone ape shit*

My talon came with 4 turbos, ONE PER CYL. ROFL!!!!! I smashed them together with a barbie doll and tied some string on them to make it one turbo in hopes of my talon beeing the fastest stock DSM. ROFL.

ya well I got you all beat. my car cane with a jet turbine for an engine!! that's what makes the whoosh sound when I boost it!!! ROFL!!

I forgot about this one. This is when I was very green about DSM's and had my 16G installed(yeah, I caught hell about not installing and 16G being first upgrade... The turbo blew and I was new in Pcola w/ no tools or time) Check it out

He read the serial number (td05) and concluded that I have a stock turbo. Could this be a mistake from extremepsi.com? I looked on extremepsi and their turbos, well mine, has the same serial number, but on dsmtuners, there are specs that say an EVO III Big 16G numbers are TD06. Whats the deal?

RBWTRANS reply:
Hey man,
The guy at autozone has no idea what he is talking about. Take agood look at your old one. The exhaust side is similar, but if you look at the cold side (the aluminum part that the Mas Air boot is hooked to) it's very different. Also, the TD06 is a 20g. There are some turbos (like mine) that are called "bastard 20g's". This is a 20g intake wheel on a TD05 center cartridge with the Evo3 exhaust housing and wheel. Anyway, I'll take it as a compliment. If I did the install clean enough that some noob thought it was stock...Damn, I'm good! If you really have any doubts, there are threads in here that will let you decipher the actuall model # that is stamped on the side.

Well I would say I hate to burst your bubble but I would be lieing :p but you might have a jet engine but thats no match for the retractable wings on my talon. My talon is grounded for now till the blinker fluid is replaced ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL.

No but seriousely, my talon is down for a count and I might be parting her out with all of her rare parts. I wish I had an engine hoist to fix the 2 problems that are stopping it from running. 2 hours of work and she will be running but no hoist to get the work done because I'm wore out on dropping a trans out threw the bottom of the car by putting it on my chest as I lay on the ground under the car. NOT FUN :toobad:
