if you get a DSMlink what mods are required in the electronic/electrical area?

not looking to spend 2 much money, but i want my car to be safe (i'll be willing to spend more money for internals )

Cheapest way to go is look on the classifieds for people selling whole setups (ECU + ECMLink [which includes the chip and the cable]) You'll also need a laptop to tune with as well.

No car computers can't get viruses....But they can have problems with some of their circuts...My eprom had problems with the ICS driver, and selonoids got destroyed due to over-voltage...But all that is being fixed now...

ECMLink is the only thing you'll need to get car vital readings and tuning...Yes it is a fuel management system+ a whole $#!%load more!!!

Then just buy ECMLink/DSMLink Either the Full version, of the Recently introduced Lite version...

You really don't NEED to have other electrical devices but a Wideband o2 (WBo2) wouldn't hurt to have it you would like to tune the car yourself...

WBo2's range in pricing, I know the one I'm going to be using is the Innovative Motorsports LC-1 with DB Blue gauge. It works great with Link, Some people have had problem with AEM's Uego no reading perfectly on Link.

But it's your money spend it how you want too...

Let me make a few things clear, the correct term is "ECMLink", DSMLink is just another name and it's spelled as one word. ECMTuning, Inc.

ECMLink allows just about full control over your vehicles electronics it's similar to AEM EMS but doesn't have the inflated price tag and all of the functions of the stand alone. But to answer your question, yes it tunes your fuel. The link I provided, goto the FAQ link and read up on it.

All of this information is correct as well. Just read up on ECMLink and if you want to search for it on here, do a "title search" and type in "ECMLink"

Wideband is highly recommended for tuning and is able to be logged in ECMLink after being plugged into the ECU so the need for a gauge isn't needed unless you want one to moniter your A/F while driving without logging.

The Innovate LC-1 IMO is the best wideband you can get. It's more accurate than the AEM UEGO and the DB gauge is very sleek looking. I'll have the blue DB going on soon when I can install it.

There is a huge difference in wide vs narrow band 02 sensors. Wide band typically use the bosch developed UEGO sensor/cable setup, which allows for precise A/F measurements above the 1:5 ratio that a narrow band (stock setup) can provide. This is significant in that a modified car needs feedback greater than 1:5 ration for A/Fs if you truly want good control of those same A/Fs.

If you do a google search for "A/F wideband" you'll see many examples of units to purchase. In fact, the link I put above has some very nice units for sale. Like you discovered though, these are not cheap. Just be sure they spec out as a UEGO type as many vendors out there say they are "wideband" when in fact, they aren't. To me, it needs the UEGO to be true.

All you HAVE to have is an EPROM ECU($150-$225ish)... it will need to be socketed($1 for the socket and ###### about $25-$40 to have someone remove the chip from the board and solder the socket in its place). Then, you will need the DSMLink... it comes with the chip, cable, and software(which is also available to be downloaded on their website). Check their site... I know they offer the socketing service, as well...

As far as tuning, I would suggest getting a wideband and doing a lot of reading if you arent familiar with tuning. DSMLink also has a .pdf users guide that will help you out getting started.

The LC-1 is just the controller and that uses the LC-1 controller. Seems to just be a different style gauge although My LC-1 controller is block style and not round. May be a new design. Not sure if that'll be able to be wired up to the ECU or not.

A turbo timer isn't really necessary until you move to a turbo which is only oil cooled. Just sit in your car for a few seconds after you park it and you'll be fine without one.

The Innovate link you posted above for MAPerformance came with two LC-1 controllers. You don't need two controllers, unless you want to run two wideband sensors (not needed) for some odd reason.

Yes, widebands can be pricey, but they are defiantly needed if you plan on doing more precise tuning with your car beyond what comes preprogrammed from ECUlink. It's just a good thing to have, really. Shop around and sometimes you'll find a decent deal!

All you need for link, and the same goes for EPROM burning/emulating, is a socketed EPROM ECU and a laptop. I would highly recommend the LC1 wideband as well. Anyone who knows electrical work can do the socketing job for you.

A wideband to take advantage of the dsmlink, a laptop to monitor and use the dsmlink, and eprom ecu is no longer necessary i believe.
