DSMlink installed?

when i bought the car the guy told me it had a dsmlink installed in it. well the battery died and i lost the tune. it opened the ecu to see which version i have (V2 or V3) i know the ecu is for sure a eprom but the chip on the bottom right does not have a DSMlink sticker on the chip. i believe darkside performance in tampa tuned it and most likley installed it because it has darkside writting on the outside of the ecu. is there a way to find out if it is a dsm link or not. i looked on there website but it didnt help much. and if anyone has a cable i REALLY need one so i can drive the car.

If you have v3 the battery dieing wouldn't dump the tune, so if you do have dsmlink we know for sure its not v3.

If you have dsmlink then your EPROM ECU has to be socketed first, meaning the IC chip thats there shouldn't be soldered in place. Heres what a IC chip socket job would look like with the chip removed and the socket being put in its place. Basically the new dsmlink chip would press into the socket...

it does have the IC chip in it. i just cant figure out if it V2 or V3 due to the sticker not being there. so either it does have V3 and the tune didnt drop and just runs like crap after replacing the alternator or it is V2 and dropped the tune. i dont know

You don't have dsmlink, the IC chip you have is soldered in place on the ECU. You must have uploaded and attached those pictures while I was typing my first post.

Theres nothing even printed on that IC chip either, its wierd. Heres an EPROM ID link but I can already tell you thats an EPROM ECU its just not the OEM IC chip and its not socketed in, its soldered like stock. EPROM ID I'd call darkside racing or whatever you said did the tune and ask them W.T.F. they did to your car.

Don't take my word for it having dsmlink, take the companies... its not dsmlink on that ECU man. dsmlink chip

That doesn't happen, it has memory. My battery is rarely connected to my non-DD which is running DSMLink v2 and it DOES keep the data.

well this is whats happening to make me believe it dropped the tune. the alternator in the car went bad so i put a new one in it. well that one was bad too. needless to say the car lost power until another new one was put in. now that its in at idle is barley runs and if you give it gas it sputters alittle and wont rev past 3500 rpms. therefore i believe it lost the tune and the ecu got reset.

also the other weird thing is the factory boost gauge was not working before and after the alternator was put in it works now. not sure why.

2g v2 does not save settings. 1g always has because up until v3 it had its own memory board.

Did you ever think that because your battery was disconnected so long your car lost all of its maps and has to reset them?

Chad is correct. 1g non-V3 has it's on memory board where 2g non-V3 does not, so the 2g version loses the tune when you disconnect the battery. This is one plus for 2g V3 because you don't lose your tune.


As far as I know, ECMtuning is the only company to put the "Observe EPROM Orientation" sticker on. So it probably was touched by them at some point.

Did you receive the OBDII to serial adapter and serial cable?

i didnt purchase the dsm link, it came with the car when i bought it. the previous owner had it put in but he never kept the cable. not sure if he gave it to the tuning shop or what.

Well, none of us can help you out here but you do know which shop did the tuning. Best to give Darkside Performance a call to get retuned and check if you actually have the DSMLink platform managing your car.

i think i might just take out this chip and get the V3. i just dont know if i want to get the V3lite or the full V3.

Well with your mods the v2 is plenty good enough unless you want the memory feature.

the memory feature would be nice so i dont run into this again you think the V3lite is plenty? i wont have anymore cables issues either witht he v3. that speed density tho on the full V3 is nice.

I really don't think that you'll find much use in the speed density with a little 16g turbo.

I'm still on the DSMLink v2 with my 89 lb/min turbo and indeed speed density would help me find my ways around the high flowing turbo but MAF Clamp and picking a switchover MAF sensor frequency would accommodate what's necessary and people have ran 9s with the v2.

Plus if you don't already have the v2 right now you cannot do an upgrade and you'll have to pay out the full retail price.

i would have to pay full retail for the v3lite since i cant send in the v2 with cable and everything for an upgrade. main reason why i want to switch to v3lite is my v2 is a knock-off, the memory feature and if the cable is lost its easier to get the v3 cable than the v2 cable

im gonna be giving them a call tomorrow. i just wanna leave my options open incase it becomes more of a hassel. plus i still wont be able to get a cable for the "v2" thats in the car.
