ECMlink DSMLink cable help

hey i just recently got a eprom ecu with dsm link installed already but my buddy that sold it to me kept the cable, i need to know what to do so i can tune, would the obd 2 cable work or what. let me know asap

You need that cable, without it you have nothing. The cable is basically your license to own dsmlink. Either your friend has no clue or he screwed you over.

No and the only way to get a replacement is to have either a bad or mangled cable to send back as a "core". Without the remains of an old cable, there is no way to get a replacement. If he is your buddy, he will give you the cable. If not, you dont have dsmlink.

i was looking around and saw people saying things about a keyspan, what is that

That is an adapter cable. If your computer does not have a DB9 (serial) port on it, you use the Keyspan adapter to convert it to a USB input.

As everyone has already told you, you need the adapter/cable or you don't have DSMlink, nor can you upgrade it. You either need to get it all from your buddy or just purchase a whole new package.

I was talking to my buddy yesterday. He also 'lost' his cable for link. He said that he email the guys at dsm link and asked them to send him a new cable. I guess it should be here shortly. Is this BS or not?

If it's a V3 cable, no, that's normal. These cables are not the special item in the package any more - the chip is. So anyone can buy a V3 cable.

Dunno, they are pretty strict with the v2 cable policy. You lose it, your SOL.

V3, now that's a different story.

Open up the ECU, what do you see? You'll know what I'm talking about when you open it.

Also, if he sold you DSMLink/ECMlink, then he should of told you how to get on the DSMLink forums.
