Ok so the other day was on the internet and was looking for a maft and used google.was trying to c if a 1g maft would work on a 2g.then I came accross greenperformance.com and found a 2g maft for like 200 buks.My question is it looked like it just came with the black box and no cable or chip for my eprom ecu.do u need to have the chip and the cable to use the maft box in use with the gm maf.also still kinda unclear if u can use the 1g maft on a 2g.find 1g mafts cheap all the time and would like to get dsm link on my car to use a gm maf.need info and thanks in advance.

Grammar is horrible.

BUT to answer your question. NO the 1g MAF-T will not work on a 2g or vice-a-versa. The connectors are different for the MAF. You also dont need any chip for the EPROM to make a MAF-T work. I think you need to do some research on what the MAF-T does. You need the correct gen of translator and a GM MAF.

I believe I've read of people using 2g MAFTs in a 1g and visa verse (after modifying it, of course). But with the plethora of used MAFTs for sale out there, I'd say to pick up one made for your car and done.

Kolby's correct with not needing a chip to run the MAFT - just need the GM MAF.

I'm running a 2g MAFT on my 1G, but i have some wiring from the 2g. There is no advantage to it, run the right one for the car.

Ok what I don't understand is why some use a chip for the ecu and some don't.I don't want to get the maft and gm mas and need to get a chip just for it to work.if the one I found just comes with the maft box can u tune for bigger injectors.without the eprom chip.and if u can just use the maf and maft then why do some kits come with the cable and chip and black box for 500 bucks.

I believe I already explained this to you via PM.

The MAFT and GM MAF can be used by themselves. You just set the MAFT to the size MAF you have and what injectors you're running and off you go. However, the MAFT isn't the best tuning tool by itself, so people use it just for the MAF signal translation and then use something else (link, custom chip/Keydiver chip, SAFC, etc.) to fine tune their car.

Ok thank u for making that clear for me.I didn't get what the chip was for but now I get it so thaks for the info.please try to find a less rude way to start a reply to someones post.I'm going to get dsm link since my stock maf took a dump on me the other day.didn't want to just jump on a good deal with out fully understanding why some are more cheaper than others.

Im sorry, I have also been looking at dsm link and gm mas and maft. I think, but you should check ECMTuning, Inc., if you go with the dsmlink v3 that you will only need a gm mas and the harness that dsmlink sells for the gm mas. A maft might not be needed any more but you should check the website. Sorry i just checked and you dont need a maft with dsmlink v3. You will just need the harness that www.ecmtuning.com sells. Hope this helps
