Dsm Link Guys, I Need Some Info!

im doing a total race build on my 98 gsx. im goning to be running dsm link with my set up. now i heard from one guy that when you run dsmlink, it shuts off the check engin light, so you can get rid of all the vaccum solinoids, cat, and some of the emissions stuff like, and it wont turn on. i look under the hood, and sure enough, all that emissions stuff was gone, and he said he passed his emissions test with no probs. it was a 97 awd car, so they just did the obdII test on it. can anyone confirm, or denie the statement above? if so, it will take alot hassle out pulling the engin, and trans out of my car. thanks guys, -Rob

well how each state does their emmisions is different. DSMLink will not let the emmisions statoin computer read the OBDII correct, and will throw up warning signs. Some states will just run it on the exhaust check to see what gas your pushing out (this way you will be able to pass) but some states will see that and automatically fail you. It pretty much depends on what state your getting your stuff done.

If I understand your comment correctly, this is not true. If you start the car up without DSMLink actively running (connector plugged into the OBDII port and everything), the ECU will operate in standard OBDII mode which will allow other stuff to be plugged into the port with no problems. You can still have the ECU programmed to not throw the CEL for certain things, but that is customizable for several categories, such as rear O2, FPS, BCS, etc.

hey doug. I honesty cant say for sure, i havent run in threw while it was active. i was told that if you run threw when those turned off, when the emmisions computer goes to look for those it wont fine them. This is what i was told, i have looked for a writeup on it but am unable to find anything. Just so your not like, ok heard it from a friend of a friend, the guy who told me is pretty smart with the link, and that was the situation he ran into when he took his car in.

Oh, OK. I think we may be talking about two separate things. I was just stating that you could still hook up OBDII devices to the port and have them be able to function. Whether or not that device will be able to "see" those particular inputs, I don't know.

i saw on the dsmlink site, it said somthing about it corrects the 95 ecu, cel problem...but like i said this car was stripped of everything emissions, becides the o2's, and he said he got it to pass. The reason why im asking is because the guy seemed like a moron, ans was just blowing smoke up my a$$. In illinois, on my car the plug it in.. its awd, the dont have that kind of dyno.
