So if i get a dsm link, will i still need a afc or will the dsmlink due everything that a afc woud?, and this would also give no need to buy a pocketlogger cuz it does the same thing, and much much more, correct? does it run off a laptop? :talon:

Well that wasn't a knee-jerk response at all. With extra funny after having found this post over in tuning and engine management. :D
Guess DSMLinkers aren't the only ones who 'don't know what they're doing'.

Regardless. Putting the AFC aside for the moment, what about a MAFT? Having the GM MAS would allow much better intake, but is there any advantage beyond that? Zeroing out the sensor better than the stock, to get a cleaner read, for a better baseline to tune from/with?

What I can't ask for a simple stock map. I mean hell I coulde sit and guess at it all day long. But whats wrong with having a known decent map to work with?

You have proved nothign besides I didn't want to spend hours guessing at maps and taking a chance at blowing the car up.

i love the AEM EMS! sorry has nuthing to do with dsmlink but its a GREAT alternative

As long as you konw what you're doing. Everybody that I know who has an AEM setup in their car swears by it. But they all know what the hell they're doing.

Mostly that you shouldn't put others down for their preferences, unless you are an Uber-Car-God(tm) and are willing to open your wallet and schedule to anyone who will follow your twelve easy steps.

Regardless, I still plan on going with DSMLink. AEM is an overly-expensive non-option for the moment (Can't afford the $1300 pricetag, and then sensors on top of that), and sounds like MS will take quite a bit of work... and I still fail to see the advantages, given that DSMLink seems to handle everything in that shortlist for MS, minus the EBC (an MBC and a properly ported WG solves any real need for that anyway). Plus, I'll retain my OEM ECU, technically. :)

The stock ECU doesn't use a set timing map. It has 3 actually. All based on airflow per rev. Higher airflow gets lower timing and vice versa, but I'm sure you already knew that since you are obviously a god among men having MS running in a DSM. Nothing on that list can not be done by DSMlink except the EBC which is currently being worked on to run through the stock BCS. I know for a fact with MS you have to have a MAP and GM BCS to use that function.

DSM link comparison to Megasquirt is retarded. What Megasquirt compares to is an AEM, or DFI Gen 7, or any other standalone.

FYI, unless you've actually read about the Megasquirt features, how can you say "DSMlink does everything MS does..." go read this link first and THEN lecture us on feature comparisons, please!

Cliff notes on the major differences I can think of: Switchable tables, boost control, water/methanol injection, dual bank EGO sensor support, shift light output, LAUNCH CONTROL and SOFT REV LIMIT (hint!), 4 spare outputs, nitrous control, EGT and fuel pressure logging, Anti-rev / Traction control... the list is pretty long. Now I am not a DSMlink expert, but I see a lot of local guys doing great things with it... mad props there and it's pretty affordable.

However, it should not be compared to MS. MS is a full standalone,m which can be more of a challenge to tune - just like an AEM - but in the end gives you far greater control over engine management, just like an AEM...

Hi.

If you don't want to carry with you an laptop or palm, en easy and cool way to solve the problem is to build your computer into the car. It is easy and cost less than an laptop. All you need is the main components in an computer and an 7" LCD. Hide all components where they fit, mount the LCD in a cool place, buy a small keyboard with a mouse joystick (wireless or foldable).

Now you have everything you need for the DSMlink or what ever.

Plus you also have the possibility to use the computer to many things. Music, movies etc.
Park in your garage and download updates from DSMlink, music, movies and all the stuff you want to have on your car computer.

And while we're on it, how about mounting a camera on the outside of your car. Hit the road, and then transferee the movie wirelessly to your home computer from the garage, edit and add cool music/sounds and upload to the web.

THERE'S NO END TO THE POSSIBLETIES!!! :rocks:

PS: I'm from Norway, and if my grammar is bad, well I could not care less if it bothers you.
