2G dropping oil pan to put a new oil pan gasket

i need to know what kind of RTV to use on a oil pan gasket? i know there are different kinds of RTV so any help is great. thanks

I always have use Gray RTV, It works quite good.

Are you using a Gasket for the Oil Pan?.

You will be better without the gasket, most of us don't use gaskets, Just RTV and we have had really good experience.

Make sure not to loose track of those two shorter oil pan bolts, otherwise you can tear up the timing belt.

Incase you want to know what youre looking for It might be a little pricey compared to other sealants....but WELL worth the extra few dollars

I might have to try that stuff one day. Right now I use Ultra Grey RTV. It if for high vibration applications...like a 4cyl w/o balance shafts and poly motor mounts.

Ultra Grey is the cross-reference for the Mitsubishi specified RTV.

I have used several Kind of RTV, but I went with Gray because it gives a better Stock Look.

When I was using red RTV, Theeeeeeem, the RTV was the first thing I always see when opening the Hood, and saying that I always clean very well the excess RTV, I even use a wet towel with gasoline to clean all the surrounding area.

However, I have never had any bad luck with any of them, but I always clean and dry very well the area.

Clean the surfaces well and use ultra gray. I might be cleaning mine too well, because it takes a giant screw driver and a hammer to take off the oil pan.

I bought a brand new oil pan for my motor when I was assembling it. I had issues with it sealing and pulled it twice. After using Grey RTV with issues, I tried "The Right Stuff by Permatex" and the pan sealed great and haven't had a leak since. Geat a nice solid bead all the way around the pan and don't skimp on it, better to have too much than too little. Wait til it starts to get a little tacky and then put it on, get all your bolts started and then go around and get them all hand tight, then go back and torque them all down to spec.

I thought I had read somewhere that on some cars the clearance between the oil pickup and the bottom of the pan is a critical tolerence. It was probably on a forum for one of the non dsms I have owned over the years. Is that something that has ever caused anyone in the dsm world any problems with oil pressure or anything?

Only if you crush the pan by hitting something or jacking the engine up by the pan.
