I went to pick n pull to get a drive shaft with decent carrier bearings. Price well worth it. $90 since I had to buy the whole drive shaft due to the pain of getting the bearings off. I'll get a core of $50 for returning the drive shaft. I would install the whole shaft but it's rusty and I don't trust it, Or am I wrong and should just install the whole thing? I do need the $50 but if its a real pain should I take a lose and install the whole thing? It was off a 91' going on my 94'.

Put the entire shaft on. IF it works well, then return the old one for the core refund. If it doesn't, then look into spending 200 bucks and get all new bearings and u-joints and rebuild it yourself.

+ But I would keep the old one as a spare and rebuild it later for when you start to have issues with the used one.

Good Idea. I kept my spare, but it isn't rebuilt yet. I may sell it later on if the wife gets tired of seeing it sit on the back porch.

Good ideas thank you. Now, why is it our drive shafts have four sections if the rear diff and transfer case are are mounted to the body? Is there anyone running a 1 piece driveshaft? Dare I ask how much it cost! OMG

Due to the angles it is impossible to run a 1 piece there are some 2 piece shafts, but I believe they are no longer made. They replace the front sections. From what I have read some people were having issues with the angle on a two piece as well.

I am referencing what I have read on the 2g shaft and may not apply to the 1g shaft.

Not to thread jack, but where can I buy the carrier bearings? I need new ones too, and don't mind spending the money.

+1 for Extreme Psi I was looking at ordering from them last night but remembered seeing a 1g awd at pick n pull. New is always better. Make sure you soak the bolts and U joints with PB blaster over night to make removing the bearings easier for you.

Switched the whole drive shaft out today in this 100+ degree day. Car runs fantastic now. No more vibration and thumping. The bearings and bushings were so shot!OMG Not bad for a $90 and 40minutes of wrenching.:thumb:
