My handle was painted pretty poorly and the paint never dried completly. So what kind of sand paper should I use to get rid of the old paint?

Also what are some good tips for painting? I have primer and white paint. Do I also need clear coat? And how many coats is enough?

for sandpaper, use like 180 at first until the paint comes off, then use 400 or 600 to smooth it out a bit, the apply primer, but keep the can away enough so that the primer wont run. let it dry, if it needs it, apply second coat, let dry once again, then use 800 sandpaper to smooth it out once again, then apply paint, 2 even coats, making sure there are no runs, if so, use 800 to get rid of them once its dry, and once you have the desired look, apply 3 coats of clear coat, if it needs it, and to have a nice smooth finish, use 2000 grit sandpaper, and some finishing compound to get rid of any marks from the 2000 grit sandpaper, thats about it :thumb:

start off with trying to get most of the old paint off.. then remember to use wax and grease remover.. acetone.. ect. before you paint so you dont get a bad case of 'fisheye'(paint not sticking) then put one coat of primer.. and 2 or 3 LIGHT coats of paint.. remember the key word is LIGHT.. you must be patient.. then id say 2 or 3 coats of clearcoat on top.. remember to wait 10-15min between coats of paint.. and about an hour between paint and clearcoating.. just dont rush it and you will be happy with the outcome.. when i painted my rims it took about 2 days for them to come out right but it was worth it :thumb: have any other questions pm me and gl

Alright guys this is my problem, More and more lately my door handle has been hard to open up. it gos up and down but the door doesn't detach. Now i am to the point where i have to push real hard on the door panel from outside then pull up real hard, befor the door will open. So if anyone out there could tell me what i need to do, i would really appreciate it.

check the write up in tech section, http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55158
It will explain how the door handle works and should help you. Once you take the door skin off and peel back the plastic you'll be able to see how the handle works. Sounds like a loose connection on the bar with the white clip that moves when you pull up on the handle. Hope that helps.

i bought a door handle for my pass. side door since my old one broke, my question is...what are the best way to disconnect the two rods attached to the present handle? ...i thought about using a flathead screwdriver and prying them off, bu noticed plastic piece at the end of each and didnt want to break them. any help would be appreciated :thumb:

haha i had my driver side handle break off.. its a bi*** to get them off, i used a hair dryer to heat em up a bit, then i pryed them off with a flat head. if you need any more help there is instructions with pictures..do a search. :dsm:

notice that your new door handle has the plastic for each of the two rods.

Roll the window all the way up, then disconnect the rod to the doorlock first. Then use your hand to push off the other rod that connects to the actual door handle. you won't hurt it, trust me.

haha, this is funny. I just go done doing my friends eclipse driver handle. It was pretty easy. There is one screw on the side of the door and there is one more in the door. Just roll the window all the way up. The bar thats on the lock dosn't need to be diconnected. There is a clip that keeps it in, it will slide out. As for the other bar, there is a clip that keeps it in the hole, reach your hand from the inside door and unclip it. It's pretty easy man.

I had to do my passenger door handle, it's def isn't fun reaching your hand in such tight space with. I think that metal rod I just pushed until it popped out of the plastic clip, it didn't break that time but I had to replace both my door lock actuators and had to remove that again. It broke but the door still works fine...somehow it doesn't pop out of the slot.

So the other day I'm walking out the door to go to work and I go to open my car door and i pull up on the handle, but instead of the door opening the handle breaks off and I realize I'm holding onto my door handle. Has this ever happened to anyone else? The handle literally snapped off, so I don't know if it is something I could fix or if I need to get a new handle or just take it to the dealer or what. Help me out here, I'm tired of having to climb into the drivers seat from the passenger side door.

Happens all the time. Happened to another buddy of mine as well. I just go through the passenger door...big time pain in the a$$. You have to purchase the complete assembly, unless you go to a junkyard. I haven't yet, but I need to do some research on a better-made solution (possibly of metal vs. plastic).

Hi. Just buy another door handle. They are around $60 from the dealer and about half that for a new one on ebay.

happened to me just the other day. And OMG is it annoying climbing in from the passenger side. All the junkyards already have the handles taken off. But you can get it off a stealth, avenger, eclipse, talon,Lazar, and another one but forgot which. so if you do go to a junkyard look for those cars of the same years.. all used the same handle. Cost 80 bucks from dealer in Hawaii. junkyard wants 30.

Happened to me a year or two ago. Replacing it is a bi***.
Defiant, do those reenforments really work? They look like nice peices, but has anyone had any problems with them?

ME too happend to my 98 RS i did without the handle for 7 months hahaha and it happend to one of by buddies both his broke not at the sametime ....have you ever seen someone get into there eclipse threw the hatch it's a site i'll tell you LOL

i used a industrial glue worked for a couple of pulls should have let it set longer ended up buying a new one .

broke 3 of them on two 2gs it sux but go to ebay there 25 bucks shipped and they claim they are stronger so they wont break. mines alright so far thanks.

Someone was selling cast aluminium ones. He showed his car with the aluminium handles and a sheet of ice. Pulled the door right open.

Might want to search for those. I believe they were about $60.
