Mine broke on day in the winter. I had to go through the passenger door for about a month before I couldn't take it anymore and bought a door popper kit. I got if for like $130 on ebay. I havent shaved the handles yet, but it gets me in the car.

Seems pretty lengthy for puting in a door handle, I guess I'll try calling around for some prices tommorow on the handles but still clueless on the install job.

Looks like my thread got merged, so thank you ops My car was close to 80K miles, go figure.

Recently during a snowstorm my drivers side door-handle snapped off due to being frozen so now i have to open it from the passenger-side. (such a hassle, and an embarrassment) I plan to go to a local junkyard to pick up a replacement but I haven't the slightest idea how to remove one/install one. If anyone else has experienced this problem a reply would help greatly. (I did a forum search but the results were too broad.)

I can't afford to advertise these gizmos as it's only a little item I offer to help out those of us who are tired of replacing door handles every few years.

My driver side door handle is dead ( outside). Dealership wants $95 for a white one. and no junk yards around me have one. The ebay jobs are black hence car white and would probably look tacky. Also the only place that can make the matchin paint is $30 a can. does anyone know were else to look for oem parts that are cheaper, or any ideas.

Nah, I say keep searching EBay until you find one. I got mine painted to match from a junkyard on EBay for $45.

the dealer is screwing you.i got mine from the dealer for 55 bucks.You don't want a used handles so junkyards are out.And on the ebay par,if the OEM piece sucks,where do you think the people making the knock off's got the design? just a thought.I would buy new ones and then put that repair kit and never worry bout yor damm handles again.

Thanks guy but i found a new one at this junk yard that i got my prelude tranny from and $35 for it new. He even said he tries to keep them on hand, if that doesnt tell you how much they break. And the got the paint match for $20 for premier paints. I going to put it in now.

They are selling polished aluminum handles as a replacement. I bought in on the gruop buy but I'm still waiting. THey were 45 for the pair, but now I think they are 60

has anyone ever replaced their door handles? I've been working on it for weeks now and the new f$%cking handles that I bought doesnt work. Does anyone have any tips or suggestion I should try. Im probably going to end up taking it mitsubishi if nobody is able to help me out. They were quoting me around 4-500 for parts and labor. RIP OFF

All i have to say is good luck to you. I just did this to my driver's side handle on my first gen. Pain in the ass. Did you get it in? It sounds like you did. Make sure you get both of the rods through the hole on the assembly and not just the clip. If you've broken the door open you know which rods and holes im talkin about. There's 2 of them. 1 for the door lock and one for release the lock mechinism the holds the door shut. The rod have an L shape at the top where they go through a hole and then a clip goes around to keep them in place. If you dont stick the top through that hole the clip will just slide up and down on the rod and yoru door wont open. If the problem is somethin else let me know i might be able to help.

Dont ever pay this much, or I will E-kick you in the balls!!
I had this happen on my 2G's that I've owned. The door handles come painted black from the dealership, so on my old 95 GS (black car), I dodnt have to have it painted. I took it to a local bodyshop; they ordered the door handle from the dealership and installed it and only charged me $75 (parts and labor). That was 3 years ago.

I just had it happen 2 weeks ago on my current 99 GST. This time it had to be painted red and I took it to a more expensive body shop. Total with parts and labor = $115.

If someone is charging you more than $120 or so, then they are hosing you.
