Alright, so I decided to do the t belt by myself. I've read the steps on the manual and vfaq 2x times already LOL I just have one question though. It says to measure belt deflection but with what tool do I use to measure that? Never specifies anywhere. Plus any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Your hand works fine. You should be able to tell 1/2 inch with it. Easy way to know if timing belt tension is correct is to use an Allen wrench or drill bit and if it slides into the tensionior housing hole and pin hole easily it is tensioned correctly.

the best way I knew to check my timing belt tension is to measure the distance with a drill bit between the auto tensioner and the bracket it pushes on. I believe it is supposed to be between 3/16 and 5/32. Don't quote me because this is off the top of my head. Also get the tools if you can from jay racing I used them and saved me a ton of grief and headaches.
