Doing the clutch myself

I was going to pay someone to install the clutch for me but I BELIEVE i can do it myself:D
All I have to do is to remember to line up the disk and pressure plate so I can line the tranny up, replace the tob, ball, and fork, and torque everything down!!!. So far so good?
Anybody new to installing a clutch do theirs right the first time?
 
I just finished my first engine swap which included a clutch and flywheel replacement. Follow the directions and do you research. It's not that bad. :thumb:
 
Just make sure you use red thread locker on the pressure plate bolts and keep all the parts real clean. Also buy an OEM TOB and through away the performance one if you have one. If the fork is good you dont have to replace it. Also make sure you get an adjustment tool to alighn it
 
The main thing I would suggest is to have a buddy when it comes time to "stab" the tranny. It's just a PITA to do this by yourself if you're doing it in the garage on jack stands.

Also a tranny adapter for a floor jack is highly recommended.

Otherwise it's a fairly straight forward job. Just "bag-n-tag" your fasteners, misc. parts, tape/mark where hoses go. Things like that. If you have a camera, take pictures along the way to reference when putting it back together since it's your first one.

This is the way to do it. When me and my friend put his clutch in we made sure we taped everything and marked it. Bagged all the bolts. And took pics. Because we go into a lil jam and the pics did wonders for us. And you should probably do this for all your major mods. Good luck with it man. Hopefully it works out for you.
 
Yes it is a pain in the ass to install by youreself and without a trans jack. I still cant get the trans to line up correctly on my ride:( It gets tiring try to hold it up by myself and tring to bolt it up. I'm going to get some one to give me a hand.:thumb:
 
i am in the process of my first clutch install.A trans jack adapter would be nice, but at least make sure you a have a good jack with a large pad. i spent hours struggling and finally went to sears a bought a craftsmen 3 ton floor jack. for a $100 it was a great investment. holds the tranny up fine without an adapter. also the clutch disc becomes misaligned easy if the input shaft is in and the tranny is not fully supported. the transmission wont go on if it's misaligned, so always re-align after any failed attempts, because it may take a couple. plus might want to think about a ss clutch line. they are highly recommended on here, and fairly easy to do while installing a clutch. just make sure you have a line wrench. Also be careful of your balljoint covers and tie rod boot covers. they are pretty easy to tear up if your being to rough while prying.
