Possibly installing clutch myself

ok so me and my dad a fairly good mechanics and we wanted to know if it is hard to install a new clutch and flywheel if we have never done it before? are there a lot of things that can go wrong? should i do anything else while changing the clutch/flywheel? Any info is appreciated.

just throw whatever fluid in for now but you should change it once you get it home. MAPerformance.com has some good prices on redline fluids i just ordered mine from them they have a packge deal check it out
but the Pennzoil Synchromesh will get you by for now. but i didnt like that stuff. it was too thin

if you are pretty good with car its a good learning experence to do the clutch yourself though i just did mine a couple of months ago.. now im sure i can do anything myself to these cars. a clutch job takes you half way to what it would take to do and engine swap which is next on my list, im putting a 6bolt in the machine shop hopefully this week.

Is there only one kind of pennzoil synchromesh or is there a few of them? if there is a few of them, please let me know which one i should get.

So the clutch is in.

Hooray!!

But damn, its such a change from my old clutch, its like learning to drive a whole new car. It really grabs on.

But i have a question, because this just doesn't seem right, well when i go to take off, not launch but just go, it really stutters, like it kind of seems like wheel hop but its an awd. i dont know how to explain it any better than that. If anybody happens to be at Automotion 2009 in wisocnisn dells this weekend let me kno (doubt it tho haha)

Its new, not broken in and beaten on yet... and probably a heavier clutch. It will break in, and become a little lighter and easier to manage.

the shutter is because it is new. It is SUPER important that you go easy on it for 500 or so miles. Stay off boost, drive it around town a lot, this will keep it from glazing and help it to break in well, most of the stuttering and bucking will go away during break in after that 500 miles have at it.

i still think something isnt right.

when my clutch was bad, in 2nd gear when i was at about 2.3-3.1 rpms the car vibrated, i thought it was because of the clutch but maybe not idk, also when i down shift to 2nd the car doesnt downshift smoothly it kind of jerks at the begining a little bit then is ok. should i be worried or overtime will this go away?

The stutter that you feel may be due to the flywheel NOT having been resurfaced when they replaced your clutch, or you may have some bad engine mounts. Usually it's taken for granted that the flywheel is resurfaced during a clutch replacement, but it isn't always done. That may be why the price is so low.
Drive the car as best you can to prevent the chatter, and then, hopefully, as the clutch wears-in, the chatter will get a little better.
I bet it's worse with a cold engine and gets better as the engine/clutch warm-up.

well its a brand new lightweight flywheel too.

Im think it might be the motor mounts, how much do they go for?

now that i am on my 3rd clutch in two weeks its easy i can get the tranny out in like 45mins and do all that is needed and have in back in and finished in like 2hours if that. dont let it worry you it's easy
