Ok here's what i have a stock 95tsi awd talon. Does the motor and trans have to come out to replace the clutch? If not what is the best way to go about this? Ps.i have a service manual in the mail.

first time I did a clutch I left the engine in and dropped the tranny.
It..was..a..pain..
Last time I did a clutch I pulled the engine & tranny, it was alot easier that way.

It would be a lot easier for you too get to the tranny and replace the clutch if the motor was out, but you could also drop the tranny out of the car and replace the clutch that way just a lot more aggravation working in cramped areas.

Pull them togather its easier. If you go with an upgraded clutch make sure to shim the pivot ball or it will likely drag. Clutch drag will ruin your trans! After shimming mine it shifts like butter.

I've done it both ways multiple times and I prefer to drop the transmission without pulling the engine. There is really no right or wrong way to do it, it really boils down to what you are more comfortable with. There will be more room to work if you pull the motor and that may be comforting to you but the job is totally possible either way, although the latter may equate to a 'tighter' job.

Do not pull the engine if you are just wanting to swap the clutch. It will be more of a hassle and you ll be in over your head since you are asking about how to do a clutch. It is very simple to do also. If you need any info just let me know and i can give you a decent walk through.

if u have access to an engine hoist sure its easier on any car to do a clutch job with the motor and all out of the car. but if no engine hoist and you have a buddy or two to help with the heavy lifting of the trans then go for it without pulling the motor. i did a tranny swap on my old talon back in the day with one buddy to help me out. but then again im ####in awesome :D

You could also unbolt the engine mounts and tilt the motor up to help get the tranny out easier without pulling everything. More than one buddy would defiantly help out in the long run.

Ok thank you all who replied all was helpful but i will be pulling the motor to do any maintaince that will need fix any leaks ect and thanks again for all input. In a few weeks it will no longer be a dd, so i will have the time to do it right

I pulled my trans, replaced my clutch, and reinstalled everything myself. I'm 5'5 and 130lbs soaking wet.... just sayin ya its a pita but way easier than pulling the engine just for a clutch job.
