I was curious to know if anyone had any experiences with their transmission and service. They seem very knowledgeable and offer a reasonable tranny rebuild. Has anyone ever used their AWD Race tranny? I searched the forums, but few are running the tranny. Here is a link to their website http://www.dogboxracing.com/services.cfm#race . I believe this company is out of New Jersey, this is not the Magnus Real DOGBOX Tranny. Thanks.

For that price you might as well go with a shep tranny. Yo cant argues with a guy whose got the fastest DSM in the world.

I am aware of Shep's wonderful craftsmanship on DSM tranny's, however he is still a few hundred dollars more compared to DogBox's race tranny. I know he is probably worth every penny. I was just curious if anyone is running a DogBox? If they had any positive or negative information on their tranny. It's just another option, since there are really three major tranny builders out there. Thanks for your reply.

I have a Dog Box Racing tranny in my 92 tsi and have about 10k miles on it and still shifts perfect. Brian and Alex are both very knowledgeable and are always willing to work with you in any way. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a rebuild closer to NJ than OH.

i talked to Brian for about an hour one time about short throw shifers and trannys. He is very knowledgabe and very eager to listen to what i wanted and help me make a decision on how i wanted my tranny built. They are also the only guys that i know of that make 1990 short throw shifters that incorperate a second pivot point like the B&M. i would recomend them to anyone.

I needed a tranny for my 95 AWD.. sent it off to shep to get rebuild and he told me the core was no good, and I'd be looking at around $2600 for a new one.

I called a few places, and DogBox was one of the only ones that had a core laying around. I talked to Alex, and he basicially told me what I needed and didnt need. I was going to stick with the 2 spyder diff, since he said the 4 spyder could still break... and he eventually talked me into a welded one.

They both seem like real nice guys, and the one time they didnt answer their phone, I got a call back within 30min. Mine should be sent out this week, and I'll be sure to post up a review of it, since I havent seen much about these guys on here.

thanks Nick keep us posted and how much did they charge u?

$1780, with no core due.

The race rebuild is $1200, and I got heavy duty 3rd and 4th gears. So they sold me the core for around $250. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Im hoping to have the car by this time next week, so we'll see.

yea thats a nice deal, hope to be talkin to alex when i get some things finised up so he can do my car thanks nick

Since you have to ship anyway, go with Shep. I went with a "well known" local rebuilder and wish I didn't. The trans is ok, but not worth the price tag.
