Seems I have a leak from inside of this hole.
It's not threaded that I can tell.
Does it serve a purpose?
Can I fill it with RTV to stop the leak?

No nothing goes in that hole, there's sealant between the case sections, which appears to have failed. I doubt you'll get it to stop leaking by putting it on the outside of the case.

Thanks for the clarification.
Pretty sure I caused that leak. I half ass split the case from the wrong end and it obviously didn't fully come apart cause it doesn't come apart from that end.
When I put it back together I was only able to get sealant on the far outer side so now the inner side of the circle is leaking into the cavity.
You can see the small puddle here...

I filled the hole with RTV for now. I'll see if that helps. I don't have high hopes.

It's not under pressure so it's 50/50. I bet it works if you were able to clean and dry it before giving it an rtv enema ;)

If you want to "mess up" a transmission and perhaps annoy some people... I guarantee that tapping the hole and installing a short bolt with thread sealant will stop the leak. Or, just do it the right way and fully reseal the case. Any sealant/adhesive/epoxy that hardens more than RTV will give you a tough time when you finally do split the case again.

Tapping & installing a bolt won't actually mess up the trans, it just isn't proper and shouldn't belong. You'd just have to make sure that the bolt is short enough to torque by head friction, not by bottoming out. Otherwise, go ahead and split the case :)

I was thinking the exact same thing. Or even a bolt and a nut with an o-ring or crush washer on each side if you didn't want to drill/tap.

Is it me or does anyone else think this is the greatest thread title EVER?

BRUH I WAS TRYING SO HARD not to say anything. I wanted so badly to comment on it but didn't wanna break the ice.

ya the issue is getting it clean enough to stick, if anything seems out before the RTV is dry it's a lost hope.
I may have pulled this off. Dug out all the grime and old RTV with a pick and cleaned it out with a very powerful alcohol wipe. Quickly blasted some RTV into it. I checked this morning and its not leaking but the true test will be after its driven around a little.

I actually thought about doing that but I didnt want to spend the time tapping it if I didnt have to. This poor transmission has been violated so much already. Kinda feel bad for it...
Ive had the transmission out 3 times recently and I am not wanting to do it again until it REALLY needs to be done again.

Believe it or not that was not intentional and im usually the first to make those sorts of jokes!
