Does the AC compressor affect heat?

I'm finishing the timing job on my gst and I'm considering not putting the ac belt back on. If I take the belt off, what will be affected besides not having ac? Will my heater and stuff still work?

With the belt on or off it doesnt effect anything besides not having ac. The compressor free spins until its turned on, so you wont gain or lose any addition power. If you have a working a/c system just put the belt on.

just put it on unless you plan on doing a full a/c delete. A/c removes moisture from the air whether you have it set to hot or cold, so if you live somewhere that has cold mornings it will help a lot with defrosting.

It will effect defrosting. So, expect foggy windows in the rain. Typically, the defroster will blow warm air faster than the heater. But, you're in Texas, do you really need heat?

Only time the AC kicks on during the winter is when the selector is in Defrost mode.

All this does is keep the system in check with cycling the compressor and keeps the R-12 fluid in a fresh and operational condition- has nothing to do with defrosting.

Way to keep windows from fogging up so bad is to have the air selector in the FRESH selection, not RECIRC when not using AC.

AC needs the selector in the RECIRC position to cool down the cabin more effectively since AC works best in a closed condition.

With the selector in the FRESH position, this allows dry outside air to come in and push the moist cabin air (the main cause of fogging) out through the side vents that are along the side (for a 1G) of the vehicle.
