does any one know why 3Gs aren't DSMs?

They suck.

Actually, they weren't made in the DSM factory.

Althought I think it was... 97-99's weren't either, they're close enough to the 95 and 96's where they're basically the same car. (I'm probably wrong on that, correct me if I am.)
 
Well yes... because they were not assembled in the DSM factory, in Normal Illinois, but thats just technicalities because 2g pretty much weren't DSM's either.
But mainly because they dont share the same Powertrain 4G63 based.
 
for your info a stock gt eclispe can take a gs-t . Dont tell me it cant he ( my buddy ) has beat numerous gs-t's and tsi's

But it doesn't have AWD, and it doesn't have 4G63, and the engine it has is gey

they were made in normal by the way but not when the company was called dsm anymore. 3g guys have a thing every year called back to normal where they all go to the factory. probably for a tour. which make me glad that the big event for mine and everybodys dsm is about racing and is the shoot out :thumb:
 
Because DSMs were produced by Diamond Star Motors, and even the 2G Eclipses, though some consider aren't DSMs, share much of the original DSM underpinnings. 3G Eclipses share nothing with the DSM platform and are imported by Mitsu, where the DSMs were built here in the US.

correct, but they aren't imported, they are built, even at the same plant i believe. the simple fact is the company that produced them..

DSMs were built by diamond star motors (Eclipse/talon/laser, conquest/starion, and 3000GT/stealth)

Oh you're right - my mistake. I was thinking of something else... reading up on so many cars, you tend to lose track a little ;)
 
The reason for the 97+ DSMs having issues about being true DSMs is because of thier badging. If you look under the hood of a DSM up until 96 it will say "DSM" but if you look at a 97+ it will have "Mitsubishi" under the hood. They were still made in the same plant but the name changed and the co-op on the cars ended sometime between 97-99(might have even been in late 96 but I'm not sure). Now if you call or go by it's called "Mitsubishi Motors" instead of "Diamond Star Motors".
 
Actually the end of the partnership for Mitsu and Chrysler was in 94. Just after the tooling for the 2G's were complete. As to why up to 96 they all said DSM on the nameplate I don't know.

that and their lack of a 4g63 engine, and they have no "cousins" like talons/lasers
 
Yes Mitsu/Chry ended their parntership in 94. Guess when most of the 95's were made? Yup, 94. Mines from Aug. 94. My bet is that they had a "gracefully breakingdown" partnership and it took about a year for them to get all the legal issues figured out, etc. SO thus anything not badged Diamond Star is technically not a DSM. But for simplicitys sake, we just let em into the club! (3G's were made in Normal, so their just as much a DSM as 97+ 2G's corporate wise).
 
yeah if were being technical then really 1g's are the TRUE DSM's ;) :thumb:

but 2g's share the same powerrplant

PS...your friend is nuts...he must have been driving against bad drivers because i WALK 3g GT/GTS almost everyother day on the highway
