Do I need a new clutch kit if I get a new tranny?

I'm planning on getting a tranny rebuild and I was wondering if I should put in a new clutch kit. My 2nd gear grinds up top and the guys and Jacks Transmittion said if my clutch is dragging it could cause me not to be able to get into gear at high rpms(only 2nd). It would also void my warranty if it is dragging. It seems my clutch is ok, but they have me wondering if it is my clutch or the tranny? I need input because I dont want to get a clutch kit if the clutch is good.

If you're pulling the transmission you're already doing all the work to do the clutch so it's usually smart to do so.

I personally always replace the clutch when I pull the transmission. Because if your clutch or tob go back and you have to replace them shortly after, you'll kcik yourself in the head.

agreed with the guy above, since the transmission is out invest in the new clutch kit . Its a large investment of time to rip the transmissions out. I make it a habit to replace the disk and pressure plate at the very least, oh always replace the TOB as well

if you like your pressure plate and current set up then simply put a new disk and TOB in if your trying to save some money. Always go OEM on the TOB

What is the TOB:coy:.

If there is a chance that the clutch is bad or it hasn't been replaced in awhile, I would go ahead and replace it while you have the tranny out to just be sure. You would hate to have to tear the tranny back out or even worse void your warranty because you didn't want to replace it and play it safe.

Yeah, while it's out, not a bad idea to go ahead and snag a new clutch kit. The South Bend ones are great, and love the Exedy one that I'm currently running.

ACT 2600 is good for 350whp, and just make sure you resurface your flywheel. No need for a new one.

However, I would go with an xtd stage four. It's what me and several locals run with 10k miles on it and 450whp.

XTD Stage 4. Good up to 500whp and above. Proven to work well with many people on this forum. Little chattery but for the price and hold that it gives its worth it and then some.

Are yall cars dd's? (Im bout to check out the xtd) I dont want to have to pull the tranny again. By the way I have never launched my car over 3k if that matters.

My car is my daily, and it holds great. Grabs like it did day one, still plenty of meat left on the disk, and I have about 25k miles on it. I have the 6 puck unsprung disk. I also plan on using another XTD in my new motor/turbo setup.

There is NO need to replace the clutch if it is still in good shape. Pull the pressure plate and inspect the disc for wear and damage. If everything is in good shape run it. From my personal experience the clutch disc in the xtd stage 4 is trash. Between me and one of my buddies we went thru 5 disc's in a year before swapping them out with something different. The rivets will literally sheer right off the hub.

Look into the TZ/ south bend clutches they seems to be great that's what I'll be upgrading to. They have many different kits to suit all sorts of HP levels.

Ive read mostly good things about the XTD from some old threads on tuners, a couple bad. My car will be a dd and probably never get launched above 3k. The only thing I would question is the 6 puck unsprung disc. Would that be good for a dd?

Not gonna lie they're kinda a bi*** to drive for a daily. Manageable, and I know people who have DD worse clutches (4 pucks). However for the price you can't beat em', it's what I have in my 2g.

Also if you resurface the flywheel make sure to shim your clutch fork pivot ball. Mitsubishi actually says to replace your flywheel and that it shouldn't be resurfaced.... people still do it though.

This clutch has held up over a year on doing pizza deliveries on 320 whp. And yes, I DD it.

Oh you and one buddy? How about 6 local friends, myself, and 7 online friends all of whom are pushing 400+ and no problems with it?

187 shipped?? wow!
is the plate good for a daily driver?
I've heard good things about Act 2600 with street disk for a daily
Yes they're good for a DD. As I DD mine.

All you have to get use to is that because it's unsprung, it's either engaged or disengaged. Very little play room. After about 30min of driving though, you become a master.
