im just wondering because of a few things...im still on stock clutch with about 85,000, just so you know...anyway, in the hanes manual it said somthing about pushing the pedal in untill it is about 1/2 inch from the floor and go from 1st to reverse....wouldnt go, and when i pushed in just A BIT further it went in but went in grinding...and somtimes while im driving and i have the clutch in all the way (car is running at normal opp temp,) it grinds...is this a bad clutch? im hopeing that it is and not a tranny prob...anyway thanks...oh and if it is should i have it replaced as soon as possible, or can i still drive on it for a while....thanks again.

You need to adjust your clutch master cylinder actuator rod. I can't seem to find the link of vfaq, but I know it's there. It's pretty easy to do. Find your master cylinder on the firewall by your clutch pedal (inside of hte car). There a nut on it, loosen it. Then, take a pair or plyers/vice grips and turn it clockwise (when looking towards the front of the car. Tighten the nut. Start the car up and check to see if it still grinds. If not, your done. If it does, do it again until it doesn't grind. Also, you can put some GM Syncromesh or an equivalent in there to help with grinding.

ok thanks...i hope it works...i want a new clutch anyway...but it would be nice to replace it when i WANT to instead of when i HAVE to..ill get right to it...and i have penzoil sycromesh in it right now...

It could very well be clutch related. I'm starting to have trouble with getting my car in first at stoplights without pumping the clutch pedal twice and the pedal is super stiff. Old clutches and master/slave cylinders cause all sorts of shifting probs. A thorough once over of the clutch system will most likely return you to nice shifting again. I'm putting in a new clutch, rebuilding the slave/master cylinders, and putting in some GM fluid and an SS clutch line and that should make the car 10X more enjoyable to drive.

At that mileage, it's more than likely that your clutch hydraulics are rather worn, and are beginning to leak. Sounds like you need to buy a new slave cylinder, and rebuild your master cylinder.

You could try adjusting the hydraulics as a quick fix, but it will only get worse. Besides, the parts are cheap :thumb:

Yeah, I believe both are around $30 even from the dealer. I have to buy some new ones today as well, since one of them (master or slave) is leaking.
