Is there a way to Stop the odometer from reading more miles? For a 95 GST AUTOMATIC...
The car is being shipped to Central America long story...
Any feedback would be appreciated

If its being shipped, the milage wont go up. The distance only counts if the wheels are turning. :p

Sounds like he wants to preserve the MILEAGE for shipping purposes.

LOL what kind of question is this....
yes you can, yes its illegal, no im not telling you.

it only counts if the wheels are turning and the key is on. ( on a 2g ) i know from experiance :)

anywho -- ya can turn the miles back pretty easy- Force em back - ya most likley wont break it. ( ive done it on a old cluster from a 1g, as a test. )

take out the gauge cluster, no mileage registers.
Sure its not as easy as the speed sensor and you better hope nothing signals a CEl or overheats. But what the hell its another way....

An anonymous friend of mine says to pull the speedo cable plug from the tranny.

2g -- there is no cable. its a sensor as defiant says.

can you just pop out cluster and spin back mile by hand ?? only reason why i am asking is i ask before on other board and got flamed btu the reason i want to do it is i had 156K+ miles on org motor and got that replaced so i want it to show the miles of the new engine. if you dont want to post just email me ot IM me , thanks

I am trying to keep the mileage where its at. I know the mileage wont register when the keys arent in it, we will be towing it behind a moving van, BUT. We ran out of room and someone is going to be in the car being towed. It is illegal in the US to be in that car, but once out of US its not. So we want to have the radio on and use the battery, but once that is on mileage will start to roll. Thats why i said long story.

I was thinking about just unplugging the Speedo sensor, but im not sure where it is and how to do it.

Im not shady, its just alot of miles that i dont want on the car..
THANKS GUYS!

dsm4life : yes you can

jeffery: im not all tha sure it will register miles if the key is only in the accsess position.
at any rate the spedo sensor is REALLY easy to unplug - its on top of the trans near the firewall.

if it's being pulled behind something get a 2 wheel dolly and put the front tires on the dolly. the rear rolling tires won't rack up any mileage.

the actual speed sensor is between the rear motor mount. Remove upper intake hose and battery to get to it easy. Just remove the metal clip and yank it off. The car will operate completely fine without it if you're just running radio. I think the automatic tranny needs the speed information - manual i know there is no issues...

take your speed sendor out and send it to me and I will send you My broke one.

I have not had a speedometer or odometer in 2 yrs and no problems here.

I am still confused where it is? Will an Automatic still run with it disabled? Just Curious
I found this pic on some old thread but it looks like its a 1G...

So its under the Battery?

HMmmmmmmmmmm

So someone is sitting in a car all the way from illinois to centeral america??????????

Sucks to be them.

Jeez.... Can't you just take out the instrument cluster??? I mean with it not there you should still be able to use the radio, and if it isnt there it wont register any miles. ;)
