Direction to install Throttle Body shaft seals

When removing the old seals you could have damaged the surface they sit in. Did you coat the seals with anything during installation? There is a possibility you damaged them while installing them or pushing the shaft through. The seals also could have shifted out of place while pushing the shaft through. You have to make sure they're still seated properly once the shaft is in place.

By replacing the seals you did essentially "rebuild" the throttle body. There should be no need for an upgrade unless your throttle body is damaged.

My recommendation would be to replace the seals yet again, but use dielectric grease on them this time. I don't see why oil wouldn't work but I have always used dielectric grease with success.

That's what all the guides I've read say to do. I never had a problem just pushing them in by hand. Then again, my seals are from Motion Industries so maybe they are the slightest bit different size.

Ya, that's backwards. My new suggestion: take the seals out (carefully!), flip em, reinstall em with dielectric grease and see what happens. Then we can go from there if they still leak. At least that way is free to try first.

If you look at those seals from the side they taper. The narrow side of the taper should face in. Those machv seals fit tight. Make you tap them in real straight. Even then the outer edge of the seal will tear a little. Every seal from machv I ever put in has done this. I don't think it hurts anything.

Don't feel too bad. I thought I had to re-use my old OEM metal seal rings with the new seals.

Boy was I wrong.

Sweet that's totally weird because the taper is on the side that faces outward...

Yeah. I noticed the same thing. I had to pound them in backwards, then pop them out gently before I could put them in the correct way. I could not get them in the correct way any other way. They hold 23psi fine now (all the higher my BLT can go.)

Old ones leaked at 2psi. :notgood:

Throttle Body O-Ring

I bought my seals for less than $2 at lowe's.

will these work on a 2G turbo?
super cheap - avaialbe at any hardware store?

why would anyone pay more and wait for a while
on these seals if you can just get em at the hardware store?

need to get seals and gaskets to fix a leak
so i need to order up parts n stuff... or maybe just go to Lowes..

anyone think the lowes seals are a bad idea?
can Napa still get the seals mentioned hereTB Shaft Seals VFAQ
or does anyone have a Reccomended current source /part #'s for these seals and the TB gaskets. Prices and how long to get Thanks!

A previous thread has a member from here stating that he used the same seals as the fuel injector o rings. He mentioned to also pm him for details on it however its been about 2 weeks without a reply back. Does anyone have any other insight on this? Also are the turbo tb shafts the same as the non turbos? I have a non turbo tb that needs a rebuild.

I'm not saying o-rings wouldn't work but I would just use the shaft seals. They are proven to work and are what's suppose to be on the shaft.

The turbo shaft seals are a different size than the Non-turbo shaft seals. There are a few threads around with information about the N/T shaft seals.
