I just installed a different head after my timing belt went. Everything is back together and the break-in period is over. Last night i revved past 5,000 rpm. for the first time and noticed it was struggling, I let off at 5,500. Then a riced-out Honda cruised by so i stepped on it, went to about 6,000 rpm's, now theres a huge cloud of smoke behind my car. I opened the hood to notice my dipstick shot up, and oil sprayed all over the underneath of my hood, then dripped all over the motor and exhaust. What could be the problem? I already replaced the PCV valve and does the same thing???

Everytime I run my car hard through 2nd and 3rd gear the oil dipstick blows out and oil sprays everywhere. I assume this is caused by some blow by or a faulty PCV valve? Is there a simple cure?

From what I've seen it's usually caused by the seals on the dpstick tube drying up and no longer being able to kep the thing in there. Buy a new dipstick or slightly crush the top of the dipstick tube so it holds it tighter. :thumb:

safety wire is probably the cheapest even tho it'll be a pain in the ass to check ur oil level.

WIth your dip stick still in place, grab some channel lock pliers or equivalent, and give it a squeeze right near the top of the dip stick tube.
Also, you can probably find some o-rings at any hardware store and replace the ones on your dip stick for close to nothing.
Replace your PCV as well, I've read on here some where that a faulty PCV can allow boost to leak into the crankcase or something like that.... thus blowing out your dip stick.... just my 2 pennies......

Grab a piece of safety wire and just tie the dipstick down to the PS bracket.

is'nt this avoiding the real problem i think your gettin alot of blow by especially if oil is coming out i leaned out and melted piston #2 i found my dipstick out with oil all over under the hood

Dont people ever do a search before they post around here?? Simple solution take a piece of 3/8 inch hose and force it around the dipstick and it will never pop out of the dipstick tube again. It will hug the dipstick handle and the dipstick tube.

Whatever the cause - whether it's your PCV valve, blowby, or bad o-rings, get it fixed.

Hot oil + hot turbo = underhood fire, especially if there are any traces of fuel in the oil (common with old/bad piston rings).

When I bought my 1g, it smoked blue smoke, and whenever you tromped on it the dipstick shot out and so did a lot of oil. I found my problem. It was broken piston lands. I hope your problem is something less than mine, because I had to replace my pistons. But in any case, don't ignore this problem, because it isn't likely to get better. Good luck.

did a few pulls last night, 6k pulls. then oil started comin out of the dipstick during the pulls. i got a 2g some could this be a sign of crankwalk, having too much crank pressure?

Get a piece of rubber fuel line and put that on the dipstick tube. Then put the dipstick in and put little clamps on the fuel line. This will hold the dipstick in and prevent it from popping up.

I've search these forums for articles containing disptick and still arent infomed enough about eveything to could cause it to pop out. Yesterday I decided to take my car up to 8000 rpm (tmo stage3) in second gear and the dipstick shot out and I got oil all over the engine bay. I Just want to know what are all the possibilties of all of this happening, besides blow pistons rings.

Well i dont know if this will ansewer at all but the day my dip stick blew out later that day so did my rings so it could be Somthing as small as the pvc but i did find some info about your problem.

My oil dip stick keeps popping out! Is there a fix?
Search for this topic now!

The dip stick is often usually forced out by excessive crankcase pressure. In many cases, however, this is not due to an increase in crankcase pressure - rather, it is due to a decrease in the holding power of the dip stick. Lots of these cars are over 5 years old, with many approaching the 10 year mark, and most rubber parts have lots their original resiliant nature. The rubber plug on the dip stick may have shrunk and hardened over time, causing the stick to come out more easily than before.

If replacing the dip stick rubber doesn't help, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve is often at fault. This is an inexpensive little part that is supposed to vent excess pressure, but it can wear out or clog. A quick replacement may be in order.

Another possibility is replacing the breather hose with a small K&N valve cover filter, which will hopefully help to vent excess pressure. Bad turbo oil seals and worn piston rings are the next likely suspects

I use to have that problem I looked at my dipstick compared to a new one and noticed that the ruber on mine was worn away. Got a new one and never had the problem again.

Criminy, don't wind it that tight. Your cams, oil pump and balance shafts are turning 16,000 rpm. That's too much.

And yes, blow-by is what's popping out the dipstick. High rpms on an old motor will make it worse.

First of all my old dipstick was the same way as most of ours are. I tried to "clamp" my old tube down and to my dismay it started breaking apart the hard rubber/plastic that holds my dipstick in. I looked at the tech articles here and found the garage door lock down one. I did this but oil still forced itself up and out to dribble down (guessing because the hard plastic was no longer fully sealing the tube). I went and bought a dipstick that was the closest match (88-93 Chevy truck) and cut off about 1/4 of an inch then bent the bottom just like ours is (not sure why just figured clearance issues?) then reground two new notches for the two marks. I measured it like 15 times to make sure the marks were exact, length was exact, oil measured exactly the same and it did. No leakage at all. I tried calling junk yards but obviously none sold the dipsticks and I was more concerned that they were to old and would just break apart again. New ones at the dealer at $37.00 here, this one was 5.00 and it seals inside and over the tube, not just inside. Very good fit and with it locked down not a drop has leaked out. :thumb:
