Difference between a 90 & 91-94 TB?

I'm looking at a 1990 Talon tomorrow, that supposedly has had the throttle body switched to a 91-94 TB and an 91 ECU. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to tell if the ECU is a 91 because it has DSMLink. But the throttle body I don't know about and need to be able to tell.

Any input would be a blast, plus if you have any more tips on what to check let me know.

Thanks,
Brian

Maybe I am a noob today but how can you tell if it has a 91 ecu with link? I thought the only way was either by the numbers on it or by the 2 wires that have to be switched around?

I was under the impression that 90's didn't come with EPROM's. Maybe I'm the noob..

EDIT Yeah, nvm on that comment. So I don't know if its a 91, but that's what he said.

Yes, 1990 had EPROM ECU's. Also, you can get a 1991+ TB to work on a 1990, the plug is the same, just switch the TPS. I have found that the ISC on the 1991+ TB seem to work better than the 1990.

That's odd. The 90 TB is slightly larger then the 91. Doesn't make sense to go through the hassle of installing a 91 TB. Also it would take ALOT of work to put a 91 ECU into a 90 car. It would be obvious to see if it has a 91 ECU because the ignition system harness needs to be modified for it to work, that is if he installed it correctly.

The TPS will not swap between a 1990 and a 1991+ 1g. I have both right here. The TPS is actuated by the throttleplate shaft in a different fashion.

The 1991+ has arms that are turned and the 1990 has a shaft with a semi-key slot.

So what your saying, is us guys with 1990 ECU cars such as myself (I have DSMLink though) have a very limited TB selection?

Just curious about aftermarket options...not that I think I NEED a bigger TB yet or may never but just curious.

To convert to a 1991-1994 TB, you'll need the harness connector to the 1991-1994 TPS, splice it in the 1990 harness and then you're good to go for a 1991-1994 throttlebody and matching TPS. I did it on my 1990. I'm pretty sure the wires were even the same color. . .

The wires are the same color. Don't forget that the fuel rail will need to be updated as well, do to the flange interfering with the TPS.

Thanx! I completely forgot about the fuel rail. Yea, you'll need a 1991-1994 4g63 turbo or n/t fuel rail. I have the n/t rail on mine (same thing as turbo). The angle of the 1990 fuel line inlet flange will get in the way of the fatter 1991-1994 tps.
