Definative 1st Gen FWD DIY exhaust thread

Just trying to get it all ready - I'll be updating it with pics when I'm done.

I've searched a lot trying to find how the best way to make your own 3" DIY FWD 1st Gen exhaust... after finding a lot of stuff, but nothing definatively JUST for 3" FWD 1st Gen... thought I'd start a new thread.

Total Price - $167.94 including shipping

Parts bought -

555-30611 - 4 ft straight tubing of 3" OD pipe - $13.99
289-42323 - 180* 3" OD Mandrel bend - Times 3 - $59.97 (or 19.99 ea)
642-12198 - Magnaflow 3" inlet / dual 2.5" outlet at 5"X8"X14" long - $84.99

Total - $167.94

3 bolt flanges and gaskets will be purchased from local store. Custom O2 dump will be made (and with enough begging will be availible thru a DSM shop I know) allowing 3" Downpipe to mate.

My total expenditure goal on this project is less than $300 - I'll get the O2 at a discount (since I'm OWED BIGTIME ) but still, O2 dump, and full exhaust for $400-450 isn't a bad thing. And I KNOW you could have ordered a muffler for less than HALF the Magnaflow (but you get what you pay for )

The three 180's are cut into 4 90's and then 1 left whole for the ugly stuff (over the rear) - one 90 for the first bend, one 90 should be split and used for the jog in the downpipe, two 90's for the gas tank work around...

Pictures when I'm done (don't expect anything too quick- sometime next week I think)

I just posted back to a thread about 1G FWD turboback exhaust build up not too long ago. Anyway, what I used for the downpipe...

1 - 90 (I prefer the full 90 because of the legs to connect to the flex section)
1- flex section ( I highly, highy recommend one....but its up to you)
2- 45 (for the s-jog you call - although 1 90 cut in half would work too)
2 - flanges

For the cat-back...

1 - u-bend (for the curve by the gas tank, cut in half)
1- resonator (I live in CA )
1 - high flow cat
2- 45 and 1 90 (to go under the infamous solid axle)
1- muffler

I re used all the factory hangers. Good luck.

sounds like my setup but on a 1g. The magnaflow single in dual out muffler sounds really good!

Yeah, I was actually going to order the dynomax until I remembered seeing that you had found a Magnaflow...

As far as flex section goes- I typically don't run them, I use the stock style hangers and weld inside and out on 1/2" flanges You should see the exhaust on my Stealth TT Stillen DP and two 45 bends - nothing else
