brick, New Jersey
so i bought this talon and have been posting on my motor swap.
but today i ran into a brick wall that stoped me in my tracks. both cv axles are stuck in the trans and will not come out i had a 3 ft pry bar on them i pulled with all my might. what the hell is going on here? anyone els had this problem? any help would be great thanks guys
oh yeah.. its a dogbox racing stage one awd trans that only has 200 miles on it dont know if that matters

I just got done doing mine, I just rotated then used a prybar, but I hit it with a BFH. hitting it hqrd and quick will release the retaining clip.

i spun them then pryed i pulled with both hands i hit it with my thor hammer aka bfh
they refuse to budge every. cv axle ive ever done i just put a flat head in between the trans and cv and push and then pop but no go

i wish it would thats the one that has me most consernd.
cause i can reach the short one still but the half shaft came off so im stuck reaching for the impossable to grabe hub near the oil pan the motor blew up and theres super goose shit all over the car so its like a ####ing slip and slid for my hands and there just dug into the trans

well at this point i just need to get the longer one out cause the short cv hub aint in the way anymore should i drop that cross bar and pull it out that seems like the best route but i took the one off my red car and it was a nightmare to get back on so i really want to avoid this

When I did my friend's 1G gsx transmission swap. I First oviously diconected any hydrolic fluid lines, wiring harness plugs, transmission mounts, then loosened up the two bolts on the shock, nut for the cv's , brake lines, and the two bolts on the block that hold the bracket for the drivers side axle, and BOTH came out! The passenger's had to be pryed out, and the drivers was simply pulled out with the help of another buddie pulling the other end of the cv. Everything was done when the transmission was in neutral, I really can't think of any other thing you might be missing.

even in gear it shouldnt be impossible, at most, a little difficult. maybe some lube? like PB. you will probably need to replace the output seal anyway, so you dont need to worry about corroding the it. it seems like it would have to be very corroded to be locked up that badly.

I think someone already mentioned that a sharp application of force is the best way to overcome the retaining clip. My passenger side axle gets stuck sometimes and I find the best way to pop it out is to wedge a prybar in there and kick it. Really go to town, the worst that can happen is you bust a seal which you should probably replace anyway.

If a prybar does that to your transmission, then it has no business being in a car. I had one guy take me under his wing and mentor me on DSMs and he gave me the best piece of advice I've ever heard when it comes to working on our cars: Don't be a pu*sy, drive it on.

At times in the past when the driveshafts are stuck, a sharp blow with a blunt chisel on the inner cv joint has released them for me.

If you have an intermediate shaft on the driver side, it should just slide right out when you unbolt the carrier bearing. If it doesn't You may have it jammed against something so it isn't sliding out straight.

I've found sometimes the retaining clip groove in the inner CV joint splines is screwed up on the passenger side axle. You've probably marred up the hole that the seal presses into the case, because the inner edge of the groove becomes rounded, and the more you try to pull the axle, the more it pushes out on the clip. If you have a couple of long straight picks, you can sometimes push the axle out from the back while pushing the clip with the picks. I've actually had the clips come out with teeth marks along the outer edge from the splines cutting some off the clip. If that happens, make sure to fish all the metal bits out.

thanks everyone for the advice i'll let you know what happens tomarrow when i get done with it if i ever get done with it and that dont be a ####y drive it on thing is why the car is in shambles the kid cross threaded everything and over torqed the rest

I had this same problem. I took a crow bar, put the smaller end between (anything big will work, not a flathead screwdriver though) the fat axle part and the transmission, then just took something to beat the crow bar with the opposite way, and POP it came out.

I've had an issue on a 2g where it would not come out at all no matter what.

I loosened the steel strap on the cv boot and slid the cv boot off while pulling the cv axel while simultaneously retaining as much grease in the boot as I could. The cv axel end will still be in the tranny but you will be able to pull out so you can see what is happening better.

I when I put the boot back on the cv axel end I fastened it on with a hose clamp. As long as you have the right amount of axel grease in there it should be fine.
