Really interested to see flow numbers (or IAT differences at speed) of air through that TMIC setup at 40+ mph where the airflow over the hood causes a "bubble". Just want to see some comparative cooling numbers of it vs a FMIC, and why you went that route.

I'll answer this one here and I'll start a new thread on the Top Mount. This was not just a wild idea but a highly thought out plan. My goal was to reduce boost lag by reducing IC and piping volumn. I did the primary testing of air flow by taping 2" yarn tufts 6" apart from the grill to the back edge of the hood. They stayed pasted to the hood to about 6" behind the front edge of the scoop. If you look closely at the inter cooler just above the inlet pipe you will see a wire. That is a temp probe. There is one on the outlet also. I have tested at 10 mph increments at 20lbs boost up to 70 mph. without the misters plugged in. There is a high velocity fan below the IC. At about 85 deg I let it idle for 15 min. and the outlet temp was very near OAT. I have it written somewhere but I'm to tired to look for it. At 70 mph I had a 163 temp drop across the IC. I will post all the numbers with the TMIC thread. I stopped testing because with the intake behind the radiator I had very high inlet temps. I have since built a cold air intake in the right bumper cover where the OEM IC is located and will start testing again soon.

Yeah, but the RVR is not a DSM.;) Nonetheless, I didn't know that the RVR (or any Mitsubishi) used a TMIC. That's interesting to know.:thumb::) It looks like there would be a lot less IC plumbing with a top mount(?)

I know, that's what I currently have on my imported 6 bolt motor.;):)

Finally found a picture. Not the one I first saw when I searched where my old motor came from.

Very very interesting indeed :hmm:

Wow man very nice valve cover. I just finished shaving mine and that took me like 3hrs to do. I thought i was patient, but no where close to your level. Love the attention to detail. Awsome!!!

I can do mine a bit quicker.

Here is one with the oil filler cap I made.

Where did you get the hood scoop? or did you make it? IDK if I want the tmic but i deffinitly want the hood scoop. I cant help myselfWTF I just love hood scoops, I am gona stick with a fmic but I could make an air intake with that, if you don't mind?

I built everything myself.

I know, that's what I currently have on my imported 6 bolt motor.;):)

Lets see a photo. Bet its not.

I have seen photo of their top mount but not of the VC. it does look like the same lettering on the bottom. Does it say MITSUBISHI on top ? I have seen some that do but don't have the diamond star. I think I have seen the diamond star and MITSUBISHI on the top and 16 valve on bottom. But never have I seen one like te one I made.

I love the valve cover. I'm needing one myself.

As for the Top Mounted Intercooler, I think it's great. Ram air into the intercooler, a puller fan. Is there any ducting underneath for the heated air?

They are very much alike. Mine has no ridges and a slightly different font on the lower letters.

You'll really chap his brain when he finds out that you're running an ebay intercooler.

Good stuff! Glad to see you put this info up here.

I like the vc but im too hung up on this top mount. That thing has to spool retartedly fast. Top mount and cyclone intake i mean damn. What is your spool looking like? I thought about doing a top mount untill i threw that cylone on an it made my front mount spool like no tomorrow.

You really should research his results, beforedrawing a judgement. . . I think he has another thread about that.

Yeah, I remember the thread on another forum. Someone asked for back to back temp results and the guy disappeared. This was awhile ago, maybe hes slapped on a 2000cfm slimline on it since then to keep it from doing what every other tmic ever made does since then. :aha:

I have not disappeared but have been preparing my car for the southeast regional meet. The valve cover has changed since first posted. Here is a new photo.

The TMIC
I am a trained research diver and know that inaccurate data is worse than no data so I have been reluctant to post any of my findings without proper testing and accurate data. The main problem is finding a safe place to do consistent testing. Accelerating through boost at different speeds make it difficult to get good data. The top mount doesn't heat soak like the Subies do. I have installed heat probes on the inlet and outlet of the inter cooler and have done some preliminary testing. On a 74 degree day I idled for 20 min and had an 82 degree outlet temp, at 20 mph and 15 lbs boost I had a 131 degree temp drop across the core, at 70 mph I read 167 degree drop across the core. I have not tested with the misters yet.
I will post a write up on the top mount with my findings but I have several paying projects first.

^^^^^^^I bet your getting a lot of hot engine bay air the way that air filter is positioned in there... That is unless you have a hood scoop over it?^^^^^

His air filter is actually moved into the fender well in a custom baffled.vented box he built that still maintains the factory inner fender well. And sorry to inform everyone but I help tune the car idc what u say the guys a master mechanic and metal worker. The intercooler does its job cool air down LOL. I've logged intake temps are low as ambinet. At idle and under full load still within SPEC. At 25 pounds of boost.

Welcome to 3 years ago. :p

Just bustin' your balls a bit. I have always loved that dudes car. It helps that I'm a Florida native as well. What's his setup look like now? I know he had a twin-charge setup on it at one point.
