I have a 97 N/T I plan on turbo'ing as far as my goals are, I'm not seeking a neck breaking 10 sec. 1/4 mile I just want a car with a little more go, not really the least possible, but I'm kind of on a budget, 200-250 HP would be good enough for me, I've got some things for sure, I'm going with the turbo set up with t3 turbo 50 trim good for up to 350 HP I beleive. Comes with turbo, manifold & DP from streetsource.net, some say may come in 2 peices that's okay no big deal. I'm going with a FMIC from Jhonnyracer.com. Probably something minimul I don't need a 9 foot long IC for 200 HP I know. As far as an Oil return kit, I'm not sure as to where I'm getting that from because there's plenty of sites. Couple of questions I have first off..
1. What site has the fittings for if you don't want to weld the kit onto the oil pan that were talked about.
2. Do I need a boost controller or boost gauge, if so, which are needed for only 200-250 HP range.
3. The universal kits require some more bending I'm guessing...Do you just fit them up there and see where they need some bends and bend them with household things.
4. I know fuel pump, injectors, regulator etc. are good for upgrading later but for this small of a gain are they really neccasary?

Thank you for being so patient with me I'm not too experienced with turbo's and want to get all the basics down before I go buying parts, I don't need or need better of...anything else I'm forgetting and also sorry about the long post I just tried making it more clear and not so jumbled.

1. Here's the fitting you need; it's called a 10-AN bulkhead fitting from Earl's in case you want to buy it locally. You'll also need a nylon washer for that, which can be bought from the same source.

http://store.summitracing.com/defau...4294924496+4294839052+4294923333&autoview=sku

2. You won't need a boost controller, but you will need a boost gauge. It is imperative that you know what you're boosting at to prevent too much boost (past 10 psi and you can kiss you engine and all its stock internals good bye).

3. The universal kits do not require any more bending. They usually come with a good mix of 45, 90, and 180 degree bends. All that is required is some strategic cutting, and then you're good to go.

4. At the very least you'll need a Walbro 190 lph fuel pump ($100) and a Vortech (or similar) FMU (~$100). The other upgrades can be left for later (if at all). You can't skimp on these two items, or you'll lean your A/F ratio out too much and... well, you'll have to kiss your engine good bye again.

Good luck.

Okay, I think I've finally got it thanks for everyones help. 1 last question.

Is a BOV needed and if so how do I get a flange for the specific one I buy onto the piping?

That's one of those questions that a few certain people can debate for days. The general consensus is that it's best to have one though. You can buy a cheap (but still good) 1G BOV for ~$50 on eBay (got mine for $30 actually). Don't get a "crushed" one; make sure it says "uncrushed." Without the BOV, whenever you let off the throttle to shift, pressure will back flow, possibly damaging the turbo.

You can also get a 1G BOV flange on eBay for maybe $10, if that. Any welder can put it on the IC pipe for you, or you can just get a 1G upper intercooler pipe and splice it into your universal piping setup with couplers. It is a small section of pipe with the flange already on it - so no welding, etc.

LOL okay here, 1 more question I swear, how do you hook up a boost gauge?

If it's a mechanical gauge, just connect it directly to a boost/vac line coming off of the intake manifold.

We should be thanking you. You obviously have done plenty of research on the subject before posting. I'm very impressed with the amount of knowledge you have. We all want our own thread when we go turbo'd though. Even I had one, it's just nice to be able to ask a specific question, in your own wording and get an answer. Just makes you more certain.

for the BOV, I did a simple search in the classifieds here and found this http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=39509&sort=1&cat=7&page=3 then you would just need to find a 1g BOV on either Ebay, or the classifieds here, or maybe a junk yard if there is a wrecked turbo'd 1g there..

As you can see in my info to the left, I broke 200 whp, that was with the stock sidemount intercooler I got off of a 2g for about $15. Of course a sidemount doesn't provide the bling that a FMIC will, especially if you're 2gb(97-99)

Again you've done alot of research it seems and I as well as many other 420at guru's greatly appreciate it:thumb:

Goodluck, and we'll be here to help when you need us.

woopty doo...you did some research :thumb:

Intercooler:
you'll be fine with the budget syle 6" fmic from jrc (make sure to take off red endcaps ;) )

That's about it minus some random fittings easily attainable from Lowes for teeing into block.

Once again, no you won't be needing a boost controller. As a matter of fact, you'll probably want to mod your wastegate to lower the boost a little.

As for the boost gauge, of course you need one...and an oil pressure gauge wouldn't hurt either.

Piping:
the ebay piping kit I got actually came with all 90's, but I made it work
no bending required at all as you can see...just a little sawzall action LOL

Fuel:
as far as the fuel pump goes, don't skimp out on the 190...255lph all the way
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WALB...ryZ33555QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
stock injectors will be fine with use of necessary 12:1 fmu which are all over ebay

BOV:
yes you need one, otherwise you will become victim to compressor surge...the built up air pressure in the piping after letting off the gas has nowhere to go since there is no bov to release it, so it heads back into the turbo :notgood: I run the SSQV, but the most common is probably the greddy type-s. they are easily found on ebay, as well as immitation ones for pretty cheap. I have the hks copy that mike from thestreetsource sells and it works great, so I'm sure his greddy does as well. you can also find 2.5" pipes with a pre-welded bov flange on ebay.

Alright...I guess I'm done being nice for now :rocks:

Keep up the good work and research, it is truly appreciated (as you can see from my kindness) :dsm:

Chris97pittman I have an HKS std bov...hint...hint, that takes the greddy flange, which you can upgrade to a greddy bov later. That is what I have since recently upgraded from the HKS std, to a Greddy type-Rs, I also have a Vortech fmu that I am not using...hint...hint too. PM me or e-mail me if you are interested in them or need help. I also live here in WA, so maybe we could meet up or something? Let me know man. It's good to hear you are going w/ BOOST!!! :rocks:

I too have a Vortech 12:1 FMU that I don't need, and live in WA too...HINT HINT.......LOL, But seriously I'd love to see what your working with, I Only know of (meaning seen with own eyes) 4 other 420a turbo's between Olympia and Everett. So it'd be nice to add another on the west side of the mountins.

This is the most imformative thread I've had yet, thanks everyone, to you that live in In Tacoma and Seattle, I work on 2nd and Union in a 42 story washington mutual (construction site) and I'd be willing to meet up after work to see some set ups.

Thanks everyone as I get the money I will start buying parts and I will take pics and keep you guys posted on the goods.

Do you live here in Tacoma now? Let us know. I am free if you want to meet up. Also this Saturday there is a meet of dsms going down to CLACKAMAS TOWN CENTER if you want to go. There is a thread on it too in the NW dsm clubs forum. Take it easy man and it will be cool to see your project come together. Let us know if you will need those parts.

Sure thing, if anyone would like to help with the install after I get all the parts together that'd be great too. I don't have a garage to work in it's too much of an incline my cars about 3" off the ground, LOL.

I hear ya...I don't have one, but you could use jack stands thats what I do...It just takes a while to put it up. LOL

my car lives on jackstands

oh yeah...you're welcome for the info :shhh:

woah cool...I just found out this forum has a private messaging feature OMG

so what kinda timeline are you looking at getting all this stuff? I went from taking half a year or so to gather all my turbo parts, to spending a couple thousand in a couple of days...hoorah tax returns :rocks:

Nice job Xmasta with the links, never seen so many useful ones in one post :rocks:

I found the best way to piece together the turbo kit is just to throw some money on the side of every paycheck, then when it adds up to over 100$, but a part of the kit. You should be able to get any part of your kit for under 100$ (minus intercooler or turbo). I got my t3/t4 57 trim for 101$ and it was the most expensive part so far. I am still debating FMIC or SMIC.

With an FMIC, you will have cooler charges with a bigger turbo, like mine, but a SMIC is much easier to fabricate piping for, and has less of a pressure drop. And since you dont seem like you are going to be working the engine, you should be fine with a smaller turbo and a stock 2g or 1g smic. I picked up 2 SMICs for 40$ off ebay. I didn't see it mentioned in this thread, but you don't want to boost more than 8 psi on 93 octane.

I honestly had fun fabricating my piping for the FMIC, but maybe I'm just a weirdo. LOL @ the only 8psi on 93 octane....the highest we have here in alaska besides race shit is 91 octane :notgood:

EDIT: speaking of gas...I don't think my car has been to a gas station since summer

There is 94 octane here at the sunoco stations. Cat friendly too. Im starting an octane thread so I dont hijack this I got some questions.

I've thought of a couple new questions, I'm REALLY confused with the whole oil feed, return deal and my only other question, does anyone know what the internal wastegates are set at for streetsource.net t3 super 60 and if it needs to be modded to bring it down? also can I can the exact parts and amount of those parts someone orderd for piping for the intercooler that didn't need to be bent anymore or welded, the peices they got worked, thanks!
