We did happen to run into one problem though.. there is a open nut on the front of the engine which we can not figure out what it is. It is directly behind the turbo and seems like it runs right into the block. If anyone happens to know what this is off-hand let me know otherwise we'll just rely on another post with some pics we'll put up tommorow.

Are you talking about the water line for the turbo?

If everything flows well (except for intake mani) you may find it flows too well and with an internal gate you can get boost creep.

Maybe with the mani being a little restrictive it may hold off the boost creep a bit.

That being said - Great project guys - keep it going.

Boost creep isn't the issue, it's the opposite. The flapper may blow open and you won't be able to hold a certain boost level to red line.

I'm assuming the 2G head isn't port matched for the 1G manifold. Sorry to say, the 1G manifold is going to hurt you more than help you if it isn't port matched. Half the manifold port is blocked by the head so it's just a big wall and creates tons of turbulence. Best thing you can do for now is use the 2G manifold port match the 1G throttle body to it.

I noticed this as well when we were installing the manifold. Becase the ports were enlarged so much on the head (and the intake mani which we were going to use), its not as big of a size diff with the 1g, compared to slapping a 1g mani on a stock 2g head. You are right tho, it will cause some turbulence, but for now, we are going to use the 1g intake mani. I figure that further down the road, when the owner starts producing some serious funds again, we'll pull the head back off and get it port matched with the 1g intake mani, and get some 1mm oversized valves with another fresh multiangle valve job, and port the 2g TB elbow to match the 1g TB.

We started it tonight :)

Within the next week I SHOULD have pics of the completely assembled engine/car for you guys. Engine runs though.. that's a start :)

We had some issues with getting the engine to idle properly and we seriously just got it to idle finally about 20 minutes ago with DSMlink. Everythings assembled... ready to rock.. just need 1 axle and some headlights.

here are some pics

wow I am really impressed with the car to be honest when this all started I didn't think you would ever get this thing together...I looks great hopefully you will get it tuned and we can see some track times from you

and it's all thanks to you guys and these forums!!!!!!!!! :D

thanks for all the great comments/support/suggestions thus far... you guys have helped us come a long way as you can see..

Wow....That was probably one of the most informative threads ive ever read here, LOL. Just between all the questions that were asked at dif points in time...I think i learned some new stuff, LOL. I got to lookin at this because you guys are doin exactly what i plan to do when im outta school here in a lil while. I think im gonna sell my 95 GST (slightly modded) and my other beater (saturn) and im gonna buy a nice daily driver. Then w/ the left over cash im gonna buy a short block and just go from there. I figure once i have the motor built then i will take care of the tranny....from there i will find a 99 GSX shell to throw it all in. But congrats on the rep you 2 have built for your self and gl w/ the finishing touches :thumb:

It's been a pleasure watching this tread. I may have to take a trip and see this thing once it's done.

holy cow i just noticed that you guys aren't that far away from me I guess i will have to take a trip down there and see this thing sometime as well

i guess i shoud update a bit. been a while since ive been on here cuz i recently ditched my dsm for a civic hatch ;) but thats a different story.

the talon is... comming along. we've had alot of problems with getting the car to idle and run smoothly. basically we followed directions exactly from the DSMLINK manual and MAF Translator manual and they are completely wrong. We found another person who was having the EXACT same problems with idleing/running smooth with a very similar setup on the DSMLINK forums and have now gotten some information on this fix that he has successfully figured out.

the clutch will not disengage completely, and we JUST found out today actually from the guys at slowboy that the flywheel isn't "stepped"? correctly, im not exactly sure what he said, i didnt talk to him.. but we have to pull the tranny again to figure out this little bug. Everything else is kosher. Just been wire looming all the wires, cleaning everything up on the interior and just finalizing the project. Hopefully our tuning and drivetrain problems should be solved within a week or so.

I'll keep ya'll updated.

-Alex

Do you have the translator zeroed out on the adjustments? Because the newer version needs one of them adjusted, I had that same problem on mine I just don't remember which one need to be adjusted. Have you done a boost leak test yet? Thats where I would start if you haven't already.

Once you get the clutch situation taken care of drive the car down to Automotosports (AMS) in Arlington Heights, IL and let Martin work his magic on that thing. I can guarantee you it will run perfectly by the time he gets done with it. :thumb:

Don't get me wrong AMS is awesome, but at 175 or whatever it is an hour, I sure hope Martin does not take his dear time to get it done. LOL

P.S great work guys looks awesome. let me know when I can come and check it out.hehe wheres the WI love at?

it's.... 5am and we just fixed the 2 problems. bad idleing and massive air leak... we forgot to change the intake mani gasket when we swapped manifolds from the 2g to the 1g... massive air leak...

clutch disengagement fixed by placing a shim behind the fulcrum and tightening the clutch down further than the torque settings and it now disengages.

should be driving come monday when we recieve the new throttlebody gaskets from dealership. i'll let ya guys know what happens.

here's a pic to hold ya off ;)

Ahh yes, I give you guys the most respect on this board. I started reading this thread and you (nuggets) had no idea what you were talking about it seemed. Now, you'ved built a really nice and looks to be a very well put together car. I saw the bashing, the stupid remarks people tend to say to put you down, but you get past it, don't give up and you end up with a product like yours.

GOOD JOB!

I wanna see some videos of it idling.
