Great job for just going for it. Even it that thing blows up on startup, you gave it all you had. Hope to see it on the track someday though.

What is a big bore lifter?

:( no faith

What is a big bore lifter?

Big bore lifter on the left:

http://www.infobottle.com/Lifters/lifters.htm

The smaller lifters are prone to clogging and making a lot of noise. Some have reported that lifter tick is picked up as knock from the knock sensor. My lifters are LOUD AS HELL but no phantom knock. Its about $160 for 16 revised lifters if I remember correctly.

Interesting. Doesn't seem completely necessary though. If we happen to find out the lifters are clogged... big bore looks like a nice option. Where can you buy them?

btw Turbocharged u got a nice set-up. id like to see some pics of ur car :p

I was doing the same thing last year.. building up my motor... did everything but the machine work myself too I might add (NO HELP ANYWHERE)

I ended up with the following parts
.020 over Wesico forged
All balanced
Clevite 77 bearings
all bearing clearnaces are spec'ed to .015
All ARP Studs, rod bolts
ported head myself
JAM stainless valves
JAM upgraded Springs and retainers
Stock cams
T4E/T3 rebuilt by me, balanced by turbocity.
Building the 3" 304 SS exhaust myself

This engine was one of the few I have completely stripped own and rebuilt from nothing and I can honestly say I had fun doing it.
Now that I am actually putting the engine into a 90 Talon... I am cursing... going it alone, and it is a pain in the a$$.

Also have alot of recent parts that I have ordered to go into the car.

most people dont get them to prevent clogging. they get them to get rid of lifter tick. My 3000gt had some INSANE lifter tick. People often mistaked it for a rod knock. Was funny to hear that though because the cam spins quicker than the crank. gotta love smart people :)

got plenty of those around here... damn hicks... they laugh when I tell them that my engine can put down over 400 Hp... I keep telling them to laugh when it goes AWD this summer and I leave them in the dust at 25 PSi...

Damn straight.

Update.
Today we picked up the block, AGAIN

Our guy tapped out the oil squiters then proceeded to weld them shut.

SO! assembly starts this weekend.

Noyce! As people said before just take your time putting everything together and triple check the valvetrain timing before initial start-up. Do everything the right way the first time. I'm very curious of the numbers this thing will put down. Good luck :dsm:

Hey, I live in Milwaukee. Sounds like a nice setup. I rarely see serious DSMers around here - but I hear about several of them on these forums. Maybe I'll see you guys around in the summer. Good luck

I dont see why everyone is getting all worked up over this project. I mean seriously you gotta learn somehow and obviously the best way is trial and error, but everyone is yelling at them because they would like to learn. I mean since everyone one of you where born DMS Gods and have never made a mistake.

Seriously folks i see DMS'ers as ppl who want to learn and make nothing into something.

SO as my mom says if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all :)

GL guys

LaN-

All I can say is they are doing something I wish I could do.
But instead I have to pay someone else big bucks to do it.

You guys got an awesome project going. Enjoy every step of it.

Keep us updated too.

BTW Awesome pics.

oh yea, and before anyone asks, we DID assemble it in a laundry room, LOL. it was just too darn cold outside

^_^

I was wondering what made you guys decide to weld up the oil squirters

We decided to do it after reading a few things about them on this site...

-7-bolt squiters were poorly designed
- the squirters were supposed to cool the stock cast pistons, but because we already have forged pistons, they are only robbing the engine of oil pressure for nothing
- figured now would be the best time to do it

well having read the entire thread i have to say i definitely see you guys learning some info.

the best mod i think anyone on this site will tell you is dsmlink. and I'm Glad to see your going with it. now during reading to neglected to see if you guys were using a 3 or 4 bolt rear end. also you didn't address the tranny issue as stock dsm trannys don't have a fondness for hp.

on a side note your turbo looks exactally like my pte scm50 i mean Exactally down to that stupid blue single vac line. i would look into what you plan on controlling boost with since this issue hasn't been brought up, and as everyone states do it once and do it right so. you may want to look into a higher end mbc or maybe step up to a ebc, i also didn't see the exhaust or fuel issues taken care of such as an adjustable fpr, or some type of fuel pump, its nice to have large injectors but with nothing to regulate and feed them they are useless. I'm sure there is more that went through my mind. i just dint recall it all ATM. good luck w/ the build up. remember to remeasure everything twice and a third time isn't going to hurt. also do it once and do it right.

Interesting guys. Im doing a small build up on my DSM right now. Looks like you are coming along nicly. Keep up the work, and post some more pics!!!

Speaking of smart people, the crank spins faster than the cam. Twice as fast, to be exact.

You know, so that your valve opens once every other revolution. ;)
