STOP!!! After reading some of the questions in this post I highly reccommend you do not proceed any further with this project until you do alot more research. My reccommedation is to get the car running in its semi-stock form. Then begin to research and add each compnent seperately. Building a motor is a complex job in its own and can yield some unwarranted results. By attempting to build your DSM all at once w/out knowing some of the basics will prove to be a frustrating, super-expensive, and extremely long project that will suck the living performance from the car and yourself. Be patient, take your time, and do it right at each and every step.

Best advice given, unfortunatley my bet is it will be acknowledged but disregarded.

I agree, picken's advice is the best yet. In fact I was thinking the same plan of action. Yes it will be acknowledged, and no it wont be disregarded. I try to pride myself in knowing Im not some foolish kid who builds before he thinks.

Anyway, keep the facts/opinions coming.

Alrite just because I do not know what I am talking about, doesnt mean my friend does not. He knows a SHITLOAD more about automobiles than I do. We are still in the process of gathering information. So if I ask any questions that may seem stupid or nub, dont worry I'm not the only person working on this thing.

The question of the crank was actually a question I had been wondering about for some time. I am still only learning about cars, but I got the Ky Guy to teach me along the way.

Anyways, I just want to keep the bashing on this project because of my stupidity, to a minimum. :D And yes, I am calling myself a moron. Next time I'll ask the question in the newbie forum so you guys dont get your undies in a bundle. Thank you.

Hey, asking questions is the best way to learn (besides searching and learning from experience). If you have a technical question that people may be able to answer, ask it. As long as you couldn't find the answer when you searched. :thumb:

Hey guy's I'll be posting pictures of the Cams. Whoever has Crower cams keep an eye out. We need verification. and to tell the truth, we have no idea what size they are. They were listed in the auction COMPLETLEY wrong. but check back anyway

Sounds like a good project. I run a PTE GT3255 turbo with mitsu. housing and internal gate. Check my profile for all my mods. I just need to put a 4-bolt rear in this thing, and build my block then turn up the boost. OH, and put the HKS 272s in of course. 20 psi is EASY on this turbo, I plan on running 24 psi next spring on pump gas, should be fun. :thumb:

Some people will try to discourage you but honestly if you have a good picky person putting your stuff together, then you will be o.k.

I assembled my entire setup, no one helped me even with tuning. My car runs very well and I can still get almost 30 mpg on the highway! But if I want to lay the smack on someone I can. Good luck man. :thumb:

Thanks Mack for showing up. Im glad someone is running the same size turbo. We will definitely check out your setup. Thanks for the info man.

On another note, and update... we took the block and head to the machine shop (a better one) and had them check out the block, crank, and head. It was actually kinda funny, the second we put the block down in the shop the guy IMMEDIATLY said, "well, looks like ya gotta crack here"

We all looked at each other in disbelief. Sure enough theres a hairline that KINDA looks like a crack. I dunno how we all missed it staring at that thing for at least 2 days. Anyway, he's going to check it out (mag test it) and we are having both milled/decked. MAYBE port and polish on the head........ (it'd be nice)

The man said we could probably have it back by end of next week, so at the moment we are going to bring the shell over to the garage check out the car, see what else we can do. Possibly have the tranny checked out? we want to test it first i guess....

As for the pictures of the cams, i know, im slacking... I'll post them as soon as i remember... :D

I'll try to get some pics of my setup in my profile in the next couple days. I have them, just too lazy to load them up.

Well, we found out what cams we had. Crower Stage 3 race cams. So thats outta the way. In about a week or so we'll let you know about the block. and i swear i will get pictures up.
OH! block was cracked we found out. he's getting a new one, boring it. 2g head ( :thumbdown ) is being port and polished/milled/decked to fit. Intake manifold is being port matched. When all this beautiful machinery is finished..... I will post pictures i promise. It should look really good, this guys got some skill :p

and MACK, LOAD UR PICS bro..... ;)

:talon: :talon: :talon:

how about visiting driveshaft shop and upgrade the axels and i agree bigger injectors and maybe an ACT 2600 clutch and how about brakes? what kind of tires do you plan on using?i hope it all goes well WI represent :thumb: :talon:

Not to be an a$$ but like many of the others I have to ask you, are you ready for the car? If you are thats great, and you should do it. If you have even a doubt in your mind about if this car is right for me then you should stop take a step back and look at if you can handle the "beast" that you are building. I honestly can say I support you, but like many of the other guys we are looking out for your safety more than anything. Again if you are ready please proceed.

Question: what are your goals? atleast more in depth.

Suggestions is AWD: get a ACT 2600 clutch. if you have all the FPRs and such you should get big injectors and get a DSMlink (note: you gone so far already, might as well do it all the way.)

Additional Suggestions: I don't see you having a EGT or a boost gauge.

Additional money you might have: go buy a used tranny and send it to Shep for a tranny rebuild. I think you will need it.

You should get suspension and other misc things too. Maybe a kevlar belt?

well with that said, the best of luck to you and your car.

EvolvingGST has a very good point. I would hate to see someone build a car like this only to wrap it around a tree and kill themselves.

oh guys, guys, dont fret.

We have a parts list assembled already. After researching we have picked out everything we need for such a car. Already buying a 2600, new axles, appropiate belts, gauges... etc. I guess I could get thekyguy to post the list if ya'll want. I suppose thatd help.

Update: We rolled the shell into the garage, took off front bumper which helped us then remove, intercooler, radiator. dropped the exhaust... and.. so far thats all. We havnt had much time to work on it in the past few days but we'll get to it all. Like I said after we get the head/block/crank back from the machining shop i'll post a gallery of images :p

I should probably give you all the story on this car as well. We are building this car for a friend of ours. He has been supplying the funds and we are putting it together for him. Of course for a price, but mostly out of friendship and the fact that we want to do this. There is a reason for such a random build of this car but.. it's a little personal to him. Dont really wanna talk about...

One other thing you guys PROBABLY didnt know, sorry... we WILL be getting the car to run in semi-stock form before we start throwing in the parts. Just wanted to clear that up.

As I promised, pictures by the end of week. If you guys have anything you WANT me to take pictures of, please let me know. Yes, that includes pictures of me naked..... :D

just playin

Wow it is great you guys are trying to do something like this but... seems like you have NO idea what is going on. Whatever you have started STOP! Spends hours/days/weeks reading and reading- Just the fact you have a 2100 clutch and not a 2600. True dsm guys know you gotta have fuel and with your injector size come on now... and only 20psi???? Should be more like umm 24-30psi. How in the heck are you going to tune that monster on an afc? Dsmlink or aem all the way- The best part is the trans, you better give shep a call and order the $2200 race trans, then after that snaps on your order the dogbox... You got going to spend $XX,XXX just in MISTAKES at this rate.

That's the beauty of DSMs and DSMtuners... with 30,000+ members(or at least screen namesLOL and every mod and build already having been done at least once, someones bound to help you guys out rather talk a bunch of crap like the rest ^. Go ahead with your project, just ask the right questions and take in the advice without the opinions. You'll be ok. Good luck!! and post pics :p

we'll cya at great lakes! MORON

hey IAMCLP1, mister dsm/online "expert". Not to get nasty or anything, but try reading the whole thread before you go insulting us and making suggestions someone else made a week ago.

I appreciate all the input so far. Like Nuggets has been trying to say, we already know the injectors are too small, and the clutch is not good enough, we didnt pick those parts out, they came with the car (uninstalled of course). We are making NO COMPRIMISES on this car, mostly because the owner can afford to.

A little history of the car: After the little work we have done to the car already its clear to me that the previous owner did not properly maintain his car. And by sifting through the old parts, it appears the previous owner blew up the motor, which led to his beginning and eventually abandoning of this project.

AGAIN, the car will be assembled in semi-stock form, break-in will be monitored (very carefullyboost gauge, egt gauge, oil pressure, compression, detonation, etc etc. we've got it all covered ) , and bugs will be eliminated before attempting to enhance power. Additional upgrades will be done one at a time to ensure each individual component is functioning properly. We are not rushed and we have PLENTY of resources/background to consult.

SOOOOOO, enough negativity, I realize from your perspective it seems we may be underqualified, but I assure you, we will be fine.

Thanks again to those who were more optimistic.

that seems like a great setup.

just would like to know what kind of suspension are you going to put on the car
the way it sounds you will need some major stopping power.

i sujest the baer brake kits for brakes.

and the tein coil over for suspension with of course your other sway bars and struts.

hey guys, it's been a while but the project is back in swing. I'll update what we've done so far.

We finally found a solid block off of Mitsubishigraveyard.com and took it in to our trusted machine shop for all the fun.

Head has been port/polished. 5 angle valve job, crower springs/retainers some other things.

Intake port matched looks nice and new too :)
ummmmmm
pistons and rods
im not even sure if im saying this right...
have been high speed tested and balanced.

umm... !!! I always know what to say when I get on but always forget as I post...

We got all the gaskets in, including the HG 4-layer Mitsu. Slowly starting to order our LONG list of parts for this project. Block is on the mount and soon should be ready to be assembled.

As for suspension zrk666 we really do not have much for that. Replacing the axles with re-maned and putting on some eibach springs for the time being. Probably wont be getting into anymore suspension mods till summer when the car will actually be driven a little more frequently. and yes, we will be needing some major stopping power come this summer after the motor has been working good and broken in.

Just thought I'd update. We havnt given up yet! We've only just begun!

If the springs are lower than stock, make sure to get matching struts so you dont end up with a bouncy ride.
