Project Start Date OCTOBER 5th, 2004

Hello Everyone,

In about a week my friend and I will be starting a project building an all performance 2g Talon TSi AWD from the ground up. Everything is in pieces, and all we have is, general engine knowledge of the 4g63 and alot of time. Id list the parts, but I cannot remember them all. I'll post a list eventually. If anyone can help us throughout this process it would be fantastic. I'd say, just keep and eye on this thread because I can guarantee we will be talking and looking for answers OMG OMG

Once again, thank you guys for any information.

UPDATE: January 31, 2006 - Project on Hold till spring of 06' Also.. I should've written this up here a long time ago... browse through whole thread b4 commenting.

UPDATE: March 5, 2006 - Talon is out of storage and back at work. With rebuilt bottom end with fresh stock crank let's hope she lasts. PAGE 9 for more details on the update.

UPDATE: April 27th, 2008 - New turbo, built 2.3L 6bolt block, and a kicked in body. I can't believe we're still working on this car... LOL

hey ... where is hales corners, WI? I live In the Wausau Area (Merrill actually)

Sounds like fun. Are you guys aiming at straight line, cornering or mixed performance?

well from the parts list it seems to me that its just going to be a nice street setup, more of a drag car. still needs some parts like a front mount, but when done it will have HKS cams, full 3" turboback, gt33 ball bearing turbo? dont remember model #. Basically it will have every part you'd ever wanted on your eclipse/talon/laser but never was able to put on right away.

my friend's posting the parts list tonite.. so keep an eye out! :p

!!!UPDATED TO AVOID FURTHER REPOSTS ABOUT WRONG PARTS!!!

what size injectors?

SAFC is gonna have to do for now.... we got 4g's for remaining parts to work with and we need some pricey stuff

why only a 2100 clutch?? Also .. what's with the crower 272 cams ???? You sure those aren't hks 272s? Why not swap on a 1g head while you're at it? ARP headstuds? What headgasket? Was the head or block decked? How much boost are you planning on running?

Yeah, I'll second the injectors being too small. I'd probably go with 680 or 720s.

I'd throw in an AFPR also w/ the 255 Walbro

And fawk the SAFC, go with the "blow-thru" GM MAF/ MAFT combo.

okay so,

screw the safc, we're already buying 4-layer mitsu headgasket (forgot to list it) with the ARP headstuds, it was HKS 272 i believe.... ill let u know when we pick all the stuff up today, bigger injectors (680's or 720's). head and block were machined to fit perfectly together, plan on running 20 psi? im not quite familar on what kind of boost we should/could be running with this turbo and engine setup. walbro 255 (hp) fuel pump with an aftermarket FPR (wats the AFPR?) ACT 2600?????
Also i think we may need an axle/axles ill get back to you guys on that.

OH, which FMIC kit seems to be performing the best? ill do a search but if u know, post it :p

What is the benefit of a 1st generation head??

Seems to me like you have got alot of reading to do while building this thing.....

I hope you succeed in building a good car with lots of power though.
Just read up on all parts and their good and bad sides before you start to buy things. Just a lot of parts wont make the car run like a bat outta h**l ...knowledge of mixing parts and how to tune it in does.

Good luck and keep info comming!!

That is the problem with boost, once you get the car running it will be hard to fight the urge to turn in up.

yeap you guys need to do alot of research, most of the questions you are asking should not have to be asked.

I is not going to be fun to spend all this money and then have to spend more because you have to change a part.

O and plan on going over budget because you will. I think it a law

yea im just asking the questions cuz i know you guys have the experience. just to get things moving a little faster.. :D

I would definately go with 680cc injectors and a better clutch, you are going to fry the 2100, go with the 2600 or an alternate company's race-type clutch.

i had a feeling that clutch wouldnt be strong enough :thumbdown

We'll look into a better clutch for sure.
Injectors, 680's sound nice. I'd overdo it and go with 720's but if it's overkill, well then.. no point.

I have a question about the crank.... when all the parts were taken to a shop to get checked out, they said that he would probably need a new crank. It is supposed to be freshly remaned from Buscher racing....
POSSIBLY thought the oversized bearings were actually something faulty... I dont know. I can get pics if anyone can help us on this one.

Should he just find a new crank or trust the buscher?
Also is it only the crank he has to change to make it a 6bolt motor?

thanks guys

:talon:

I went with 680's and had a stage 3 chip burned by Jeff . The 680's turned out to flow more like 620. Go with the biggest injector the safc can control . I wouldnt get anything higher than 800 cc though . You will be happy you went with bigger when you are running 15 lbs and the injector isnt hitting 90% duty cycle with the 680. :thumbdown
Like mine.

Also is it only the crank he has to change to make it a 6bolt motor?

NO, you can't just swap out the cranks. You will need the entire block and rods. The rod and main journals on both cranks are different widths, they're not interchangeable.

STOP!!! After reading some of the questions in this post I highly reccommend you do not proceed any further with this project until you do alot more research. My reccommedation is to get the car running in its semi-stock form. Then begin to research and add each compnent seperately. Building a motor is a complex job in its own and can yield some unwarranted results. By attempting to build your DSM all at once w/out knowing some of the basics will prove to be a frustrating, super-expensive, and extremely long project that will suck the living performance from the car and yourself. Be patient, take your time, and do it right at each and every step.
