Crash89s Spyder build!

That's nice. It looks like the divided manifold is spooling up the HX35 about 1,000 rpms sooner than an undivided manifold and still has the benefit of all the top end.

Looking forward to more updates.

Any updates/progress on the build?

Nothing really. I pulled my built bottom end and threw my stock shortblock back in so I could have it running.. Been up and running for a couple weeks but havent had time to get to dial it in again.. Hoping we can this weak.. hoping to see around 27 psi, "should" net me mid 400s.. This is all still on pump 93 oct.

Damn, didn't realize how bad you spun the bearing when you mentioned it on my posts. Sure hope I don't get the same result from mine. Your engine was too awesome to have to go through that, sorry bro.

Clean car, sucks your engine spun a bearing. At least you got it running again.

Hey fellas, I suppose I could give a little update of whats been going on.. For the last couple three weeks or so Ive been hearing a strange tapping/squeak Ive never heard before.. Coming from the timing side of the motor so I looked around a bit. Seemed to sound like it was coming from perhaps the idler pulley for the timing belt..

It started off sounding like a piece of plastic was tapping against a body panel or something similar.. Then progressively got louder and more consistant.. One day it was just too loud, I had to figure out what the problem was, only "big" problem was I was about 25 miles from home.. Heres a vid of that day.

Dsm noise from timing side - YouTube

Started to sound like a belt squeaking but not quite.. Looked down at the harmonic balancer from the top and noticed it was wobbling a bit.. Ok its just loose, nope sure was tight.. THen saw this!!

I am new to suspension on a spyder. I have a 1998 2.4l Spyder GS and want to purchase coilovers for it. what brand coilovers do you have on your Spyder? and do you know if they would fit on a GS spyder or is suspension different? Any help would be awesome. Nice build BTW!!!

Hey fellas, wanted to give a small update. This whole season I was seeing a bunch of knock while trying to tune so the car wasnt being boosted much at all. REcently I started over with my tune and got things figured out. Happy to say Ive got the holset up to 25 psi on pump 93 oct. Feels like a monster. Flowing 48 lb/min by 7k rpm. I was supposed to go to the track this past friday but ended up getting rained out. Next week I will though and will update!!

Dsmracer: I have Megan Racing EZstreet coilovers. Im not very sure if the suspension components are the same. Youd have to get ahold of a vender and ask them.

Wow man the build is incredible!! I'm looking to start my build soon as well snapped my timing belt f'd up a lot of crap, your looks great tho, wish I was around you would love to have taken part of the build being as I have a spyder as well.

Very nice build man, I don't think I have ever come across it until now. I have a soft spot for spyders :shhh: It sucks to see your built motor go so soon, that's one of the reasons I have stuck with stock block so far (and money of course...). Have you got spool any lower with the new tune on there? 4400rpm for 23psi seems really high for the twin scroll, I thought the holset threads were saying 20psi by 3500rpms easily?

Thanks for the comments guys!

Caleb, unfortunately I havent figured my spool "issue" out quite yet. 4400 rpm does seem a bit high to me too. Ive read and heard that BC cams do need to be degree'd to actually be right. Thats one thing I havent tried, but I want to. Im betting if I degree the exhaust cam a bit I could pick up a little bit of spool.

Well hey there again guys! It about time I get the Spyder back into the garage and tear into her again.. This year wont be near as intense as last years was but still should keep me pretty busy for a few weeks!! The engine is coming back out so I can clean the bay back up since I had a few oil leaks with this old block and my alternator belt was rubbing on the timing cover so theres a bunch of black junk all over the timing side of the bay. I also have a CV boot that keeps ripping :banghead:

Plans:
* Track down power drain that kills my battery in around 5 hours
* Pull motor and clean bay
* New clutch, going with an ACT2600. Buddy of mine has one that Im picking up. My 2200 equivalent South Bend apparently doesnt like 26 psi on the holset.
* Fix oil leaks and redo turbo oil drain
* Put a Vband clamp off the turbine side to my exhaust (I fight and fight to get my flange to line up with the hotside)
* Fix cv boot and make a guard to keep future breaks from splattering grease all over
* If I feel up to it I might find another engine wire harness and redo my wire tuck
* Rewire my 255 pump and drill out the return relief hole; E85 next se
* Run lines and set up my new boost controller
* Full 2gb Talon conversion!

Im sure there will be more I do and think of while I have the car apart, this is just what I can think of that I really need to get done this year.

Here are a couple pics /J took a couple weeks back. We decided to take some pics and it was sunny. Finally get out there and it was cloudy and started sprinkling. We only had about 5 minutes of sun to play with!!

As much as I like it as it is now, there are TWO other white gst spyders in my area.. And one has the 2gb wing on it. I dont want anyone around here having something that looks like mine! I want one of a kind, something unique that is part of my personality! And I absolutely LOVE 2gb talons and believe they definitely should have made a Talon spyder!

A 2gb Talon Spyder would be badass! Do it! If you need any pieces for the conversion let me know. Good luck with it Tom.

^^ I do, haha I need everything! Front and rear bumpers, tail lights and the side slash trim pieces..

UPDATE *ISH: Today I finally started taking the car apart.. Did probably an hour and a halfs worth of work in about 3 hours. Got everything ready to pull the motor besides the axles. Just couldnt get the motivation today. Thank god I dont have a shit load to do this year and plenty of time to do it!!

The junkyard in sturtevant has the pieces you need like snohacking said. Give em a call. They're normally pretty good on price.
