So I've been working on my car for a while now, and the first time it ever started the coolant mixed with the oil, so I pressure tested the cylinders and had low numbers so I changed the head gasket. Fast forward a bit and it's at the shop, they're almost done and they say that the coolant mixed with the oil again and that it's most likely a warped head. I take the head off, get it resurfaced and pressure tested, and put back on and everything hooked back up. Now today I go to the shop and go to start it up to pull it into the shop and we see that the coolant mixed with the oil again. Any ideas ? Debating whether I should pursue the problem and fix it or just sell the car. It's a 95 talon tsi with a 94 engine in it. 7 bolt. And yes I got new head bolts each time I took the head off and torqued them correctly
 
Everybody is saying head gasket. Why? Multiple failures? I doubt it. Look at the other areas suggested. Take the filter housing off the car. Clean it up and then find out if it's compromised unless its obvious. I've seem several guys have problems with filters then overtighten the mounting stud which crushes the cooler internally.
When you guys are talking about oil cooler you're talking about what the oil filter screws into right ?
 
So the stud is what holds on the oil filter housing? Sorry I just haven't really looked at the oil filter
No. The thing you screw the filter onto is the stud. It isn't part of the housing. It screws in as a separate piece. It can come loose. People tend to overtighten it and in doing do crush the housing internally which can mix oil and coolant. This does not apply to 90 cars which run a different style housing.

The red circle is the stud that we are referring to. The blue arrow is the nut section that you tighten it down with. If this is over tightened, and the inside cracks, then the coolant and oil will mix.

Blow some air through it. If anything comes out where it's not supposed to.....
There are two coolant hose connections. Drain it and blow through it. Air coming out where the filter mounts there's yiur problem

Oh okay the two tubes that connect to it are the coolant lines. I'll definitely do that. Maybe I'll try blocking the coolant lines off like he said. Do I need coolant running through there?

No it is not necessary. If it is not the issue you can always hook them back up. I have had mine blocked off for about 6 years, 3 of which the car was a daily, and I have had no negative side effects. I suppose the results may vary, and I think eventually I am going to run an air oil cooler. That is just because I plan on doing a bit more road racing again.

I question the effectiveness of the design anyway. I always thought it would be more effective at heating up the oil when it is cold to get it to operational temp faster, rather than actual cooling. I would be curious to see how effectively it actually works given the relatively low volume of coolant flowing though it.

I'm not a big fan of this idea. You best block them off well. If the cooler is your problem keep in mind the oil is pressurized and you will put that amount of pressure against whatever means you use to block out those tubes. If it doesn't hold you will blow oil out of the car. With an unknown oil cooler as you have now I would do this method only to test not to eliminate the coolant lines. I honestly think it would be better to Loop the lines and leave the oil cooler coolant lines open and start the car. If the cooler is your problem you will know immediately as you will start pumping oil out of those lines.

I guess I did not think about the fact that oil would come out of the coolant ports on the housing if it is the issue. I agree with doing it with the car idling and see if oil comes out of them.
 
So me and my mechanic have been trying to fix my car, and weve replaced the head gasket multiple times, resurfaced the head, changed out the oil filter and filter housing, replaced crush washers everywhere, and ends dup putting $4000+into it trying to fix it, and the coolant and oil still mixed. Is it a cracked block? If it is in screwed
