ok i gotta 97 rs with the 420a ok well i am getting oil in the coolant but no coolant in the oil which is causeing it to overheat so i replaced the head gasket, had the head pressure tested, put on a new water pump, and a new timeing belt but i still have the problem and im out of ideas:hmm:

Do the 420a's have oil filter housings or are the filters on the block. If so it's possible you cracked the head when it overheated. Also you need to have the surface of the head checked. If it isn't flat, the headgasket won't seal it back up. Aluminum heads are very prone to warping. Especially with overheating.

Like He said did they check the hard for warp while it was pressure tested? Its also possible to warp it if the proper sequence isn't followed during torquing.

they checked the head and it was not warped i also followed proper order and the oil filter is on the block and is unhurt

I think what Adam meant was "Do 420a engines have an oil cooler sandwich between the block/housing and filter?". This is a weak point on some 4G63s, which have a very fragile sandwich cooler. I also don't remember if 420a engines do or do not.

Was the head resurfaced? I know that the head alignment dowels can cause issues with head sealing on 420a engines, apparently the side of the block next to the driver's firewall has a alignment dowel that is ever so slightly too tall and causes lots of problems on surfaced heads.

Do the 420a's have oil filter housings or are the filters on the block.
Still haven't got the old account back huh Adam? :toobad:

oh i see im not sure if it has an oil cooler there how would i check for that? Also no the head was not resurfaced. thanks for all the help you guys rock.:hellyeah::applause:

If you overheated the car then the head probably needed to be decked. Are you sure they checked it and it was within specs. That would be what I would look at first.

i think im about to say #### this motor and just put a newer motor in the car because this one not only has thyis issue but also blue smokes and blow oil out the exhaust bad

It's probably the same issue causing those symptoms as well, but if you would rather do more work and spend more money...

The 420a has a semi-open deck which coolant flows easily through when going between head and block. If you're getting oil in the coolant and oil out the exhaust, you're getting oil into the cylinders too. If you take a look at this pic I borrowed from fartz012 (just because it's the first one I came to in the gallery), you'll see all the oil passages and their relation to the coolant jacket.

For oil to be running out your exhaust, it has to almost be spraying massive amounts directly into your cylinders, or leaking through from the outside of an exhaust pipe. Oil usually burns up quickly as it exits the combustion chamber and especially when it hits a catalytic convertor, creating lots of dark smoke. It would have to be a pretty bad leak: a warped head, a damaged block deck, a bad or reused headgasket, or a cracked head or block. Was the deck resurfaced before then head was put back on?

You should do a compression test and a leakdown test to try and pinpoint if it is indeed the headgasket seal that is compromised, or if the oil is coming from somewhere else.

the main reason im sayin i would like to change out the motor is because this one has a lot of miles and is subject to take a crap at anytime LOL but i will try to fix it first thanks for all the help guys:applause:
