I've looked but can't really find anything. Is there any way to use a MAP sensor on my (95 TSi) car?

I've only come up with AEM if you use their standalone or an HKS VPC which they don't make anymore. Any input would be appreciated because I'd like to switch.

Also if you're lazy and don't feel like looking at my profile, I run DSMLink :)

Well the person I got the car off of (car came with DSMLink) gave me a lame excuse about the cable being ruined so he threw it out (then found out he tried to sell it to my friend) so I can't have it transferred into my name.

Long story short, would doing that with the gm 3 bar replace the stock MAF? Because that's what I'm after, replacing the stock MAF but NOT having a MAF at all actually.

(should have mentioned that little issue before :-x)

Sorry to hear that but regardless as to why, the bottom line is that you don't have a valid copy of DSMLink.

Thinking back to the post on DSMLink forums about support of the DSMLink product on other boards...

I think this would be where any DSMLink support would stop.

You will also need a MAF Translator to run the GM MAS

It IS a valid copy. I know the serial number and name that its under (trust me i bought it from the mechanic at SBR at the time) he just WON'T transfer it, idk why, but he wont because I remember when he had it in his car.

Anyways, I know I could use a GM MAF but I wanted to know if you put a 3 bar map sensor in your car, if it would replace the stock MAF?

Simple answer. NO.

Long answer, you WILL need to get the cable and get it transferred if you want to get any real support. Threaten, cuss, call his mama names, whatever. Get the cable or we, along with ECMTuning, consider it a non-legit copy.

If you know the cable number and the name of the person you bought it off of then send an email to the ECMTuning guys and they will transfer the ownership for you.

I know it sucks bro, but that is how it is. If people did not steal it it would not be a problem. With the 2g the cable connector is the security for ECMTuning. The chip just a chip. I think you should go jack that fool for the connector so then you will be good to go.

So are you saying you want to run no MAS (neither a stock one or a GM)? So a Speed Density system?

BTW it is MAS not MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor)

Sheesh, I know its a legit copy because it was bought through Slowboy, and when I said I know the serial number, i'ts because I saw him on the DSMLink forums.

I REALLY wish there was something I could do about it but I'm pretty sure there isn't. It really pisses me off because the cable I'm using right now is from "juddsgsx" from Alabama because he also knows the situation.

Sigh, I will have to see if there's anything I could do because I've already tried to contact the previous owner about it and he refuses my phone calls. Hmm maybe I could contact SBR?
I'll have to see, since none of you are answering my question.

For what its worth, he used to be the mechanic at SBR since the beginning pretty much, Tom Ruffner. Pretty much an ass clown.

Okay its late and I will contact the guy tomorrow, or at least try and send an email over to the DSMLink guys to see if I can get things straightened out.

Forget that I have DSMLink. Is there any way I could switch to speed density other than VPC? I don't really have a reason that I would like to except for maybe room and sheer reliability.

Sorry if I made any of you mad that I don't have the link in my name but I know its a legit copy. :( kinda feel bad now because I bought the car with DSMLink in it, actually traded my 04 GSXR 1000 for it after I wrecked it.

Not that I know of. Your not running speed density with the VPC. The VPC provides the ECU with a MAF compatible signal. There is some SD code for the 1G ECU but no 2G support. http://www.ds-map.net/

I'm not sure you get it. There are various ways the person who sold you the car could have gotten a chip to put into the ECU including buying it from SBR but it's the actual cable that is proof of ownership since it's so easy to copy (or get old copies) the EPROM. We aren't blaiming you for the bootleg, just trying to let you know you got stiffed and without the cable don't really own it. If they had sold the cable to your friend it would have been your friend who would have owned "your" DSMLink.

I hope you get it worked out.

The DSMLink chip ID is a four-digit number printed after the word DSMLink on the EPROM chip inside the ECU. It's also printed on the outside of the black protective box the package originally shipped in.

Straight from the Link site....

Do you think i could just get the serial number off of the chip in the ecu and email it to the dsmlink staff and get a replacement cable since its legit and i simply dont have the cable...or atleast find out who the previous owner was/is?

They might tell you who the last registered owner was but having the box or the chip doesn't mean anything. It's the physical interface cable that is the proof of ownership. There is only one of those per copy. There may be many chips. If you changed injector and needed the power on defaults changed. If they released an important bug fix or version. Sometimes they allowed people with two cars to get two chips since they could only use one at a time.

Please contact them and ask but be prepared to be told that if you didn't buy the cable then you didn't buy DSMLink.

2G Cables - replacement/purchase

Believe it or not, your 2G DSMLink cable/adapter is the key to your DSMLink package. Do yourself a huge favor by treating it as such. Don't lose it and don't leave it lying around in your car while you're away. If you damage your adapter, we'll gladly repair, often free of charge; but the damaged adapter (at least the internals) must be returned to us first.

Because people are copying our chips, selling them, and then telling the buyers to contact us to get a replacement cable/adapter, we've had to suspend sales of the adapter entirely. This makes it very awkward for someone that has their car broken into or simply loses their cable. We can't distinguish one situation from the other on our end. We tried for awhile, but then people got wise to what we were asking for in terms of "proof" and just started faking that.

So we're left with no choice but to simply stop replacing cables. I suspect this is why other shops selling similar products had to do the same thing. You can thank anyone that you find selling copies of our stuff for the hassle.

Needless to say the options have changed quite a bit since this thread started, with the introduction of DSMLink V3 the cable in no longer the product key, there are SD software options for 2G Blackbox and EVO ECUs, etc.

However there are still early versions of 2G DSMLink out there and if you don't get the interface cable you're not actually getting DSMLink with the ECU or car.

caveat emptor!
