Compound turbo dyno results

ive seen people make almost those numbers on alot less psi, and pump gas, all that psi should be pointing towards more HP if you ask me.

Peak #'s yes but not that much area under the curve, which means it's producing more torque lower in the rev range and much more "streetable" than a curve that has a late steep peak.

i didn't wanna post a new thread so ill just post in here but I'm getting the same setup made and plan i using a 16g but dint know what bigger turbo to use. my car is gonna be my dd/street car and plan on doing auto cross so quick spool and torque is what I'm looking for so anyone got any suggestion

Most will likely suggest the exact same turbo that Paul used. . . Since you said, "I'm getting the same setup made." And said "i'm using a 16g", which he used. . . ;)

Yea, sacrcasm doesn't transfer well over the entarweb :D. . .

I'd say try a bigger compressor wheel with the same size turbine wheel and housing for the big turbo. That's all I could speculate. . . I think that would be beneficial, via speculation. . .

How much power do you want to make overall, and what RPM do you plan to take it to?

My new one will be a 20G with a 10cm housing and a 40R with either a 1.15 or 1.30 A/R hosuing.

While I can completely understand the logic behind running the largest AR turbine housing possible on the big turbo, I can't follow why you'd want a big housing on the small turbo. I'd think that you'd want the smallest AR possible to spool it soonest, it's not going to affect top end whatsoever since you'll be wastegating all of the exhaust flow around it anyway.

Very nice, looking really good! Any new numbers to share?
Thanks! Nothing new to share though. Still collecting parts for the new hotness. I sold the 40R and replaced it with an HX52.

The larger turbine housing on the smaller turbo will hopefully help keep backpressure down. That's the plan at least. I don't forsee that turbine housing hurting spool much anyway.

That's awesome! I was thinking what an HX-35 and an HX-52 would be like compounded. Both are really large in size so it'd probably be better suited for a 1g engine compartment. Both with stock turbine housings would not have too much back pressure.

I can't wait to see this setup!!! :D

Can't wait to see how it comes together! When's the start date?!

So the benefits of a compound turbo setup are quite obvious to me, all the low end torque, especially for the street. But, is it fair to say the only possible downside is the large amount of boost you have to run? Or could you have a compound kit function in the 10-15 psi range and still have all the benefits.. like on other motors for example.. ?

Oh, and check out this sweet action:

Supra engine with sequential twin turbo setup, and a little extra with twin quick spool valves on the twin scroll housings. You should give those QSV's a thought.. ! Variable A/R ratios make them spool even faster :sneaky:

^^^ John @ SIM is doing a kit right now with that same combo. It'll be a power machine fo sure, but I'm anxious to see how it spools.

I figure you could machine out an FP turbine housing to keep size down and spool quick if the stock housing isn't too good of an idea. The stocker only spools quick if its TS. The FP is around an 8cm2 if I remember right. That'd be sick! :rocks:

I can't wait to hear how SIM's setup performs. I'd love to check it out. :D
