I am doing a swap of a 93 engine in a 90 body and just about have it complete except the differance in the coil plugs. the 90 body has a 4 wire plug and a 5 wire plug, where the 93 engine has a 3 wire plug in and a 7 wire plug in...

Does anyone know how to make this work or splice by matching wire colors ? I do have the two engine plugs that work with the coil from the old body. however even if i match all the wire colors there would still be 1 extra wire on the engine coil side.

Anyone completed this swap ?

any help would be appreciated..

Man i'm in the same hole that your in. well not really a hole but my tach dosn't work.

Same concept though: 90 body with 93 moter

its possible for it to start up in run fine but with the exception of the tach not working

Heres a little background info: I bought this car about a month ago in just got it runing agin due to a broken 'ear' on the block where the trans bolts up wich i had welded back on, when i first started it, it ran fine but the tach wasn't working so i figured what the hells wrong now!
after lots of serching i also found that 90's have 4 prong connestors and 91+'s have the 3 prong ones. So i went out in looked at mine and it was a 3 prong connector wtf???? then remembered a long time ago the previous owner blew the old moter and put a new one in and asuming that he didn't switch the coils back to the original 90 one because he didn't know about it.

I don't know as of yet how they wired it up for it to work because its about -5 - 0 degrees out , but i will get back to you on this in let you know about the wiring.
Im just as stumped as you are probaly.

Why dont you just use the 90 coil and power transistor? The 90's have the tach filter as a seperate one wire unit on the intake manni bracket, that "might" be what that extra pin is for on the 90 coil pack but I would just use the 90 electronics for a 90 chassi and 91+ electronics for a 91+ chassi for the sake of simplicity.

What i think i may do to solve the problem is rip out the entire wire harness and switch it with a 91+ car.. then everything will have to work fine..

but i was just hoping for an easier cheater way to splice and tap the wires in with some type of wire schematic..

Don't do that because you will probably create more problems than you solve.
