well I've wondering if anyone out there could tell me some pros and cons with coil on plug systems versus spark plug cables any info will be greatly appreciate it. just heard that cop are better for performance.:thumb:

I talked to Mike Wohler at shoot out 2 years ago, and asked him why he was still running the stock coil pack. his answer to me was the car liked it better than the cop setup. and he's making over a thousand horse. just thought i'd mention it.

sorry to say i must agree COP are bling and you wont find near as much problem with missfires

You brought back a really dead thread btw...:) also if you run a Ostrich 2.0 You can control coil dwell to help with misfires. Misfires dont mean ## ignition system is crap. I had misfires after I pushed my boost to 21 PSI. Talked to some friends they said to set plug gap smaller. I did and no more misfires.

Can't argue with that.

If your moving to a different manifold, JMfab makes a bracket but you ac must be removed. Get longer wires so they reach. Or run the COP with or without a CDI. You can do what ever you want. Im currently running a COP without a CDI and my idle jumped 200 rpm. Im thinking about going back untill I get a CDI.

How much smaller? And i have been having trouble with my ignition. I tried searching and no luck. Im getting missfires on 1 and 4.i tested the resistance across the coil and it in spec. New wires new good plugs good gap. And for some reason today after normal driving for a while the coil just stopped working. I limped it home and about an hour later when i had to move it, she purred like a kitten. Wtf is going on here?

Im not getting off the subject, i have been contemplating going to a coil on plug or maybe even hayabusa coils.. But im a baller on a budget sooo... Yea im trying to get it back to nprmal for as cheap as possible but the right way. Help please.

I set them to like 22 or 25 thousandths. Anyway It sounds like ## transitor thingy is whats causing ## problems. I had that aswell. It came loos a few times and would only affect 2 cylinders. Pull the connector and clean the terminals. When you reistall make sure the connection is good and tight. See if you can source a new one aswell. Used but working would be good.

search must not be a lost function :thumb:

My .02... The stock ignition system is just fine. I have searched and found plenty people making great power on our stock systems. Sure it may be a pain to replace wires or whatever but I will take that over coils failing on a COP system. Now if you or your tuner thinks its an absolute must to reach a goal or cure an ignition issue, then by all means go get the COP system.

So i got a new control module and i havnt driven it yet. If it starts acting up should i limp it home or just shut it down? Im pretty sure ita not very healthy to be on 2 cyl. I dont have a cat so im not worries about burnning that up.

I dont think it'd be a wise idea to run on 2 cylinders man... Thats rough

Im looking for a reliable 400+/-. I drove the car to school today and she hasnt acted up on me yet. I even did a good 1st-4th pull. No problems yet. Now I'm going to be playing with the gap on the plugs. Some guy told me to gap it at .009 and back it off from there. He has THE fastest civic in colorado on the factory ignition system so I think its safe to say that he knows what he's doing. What are your guy's opinions?

I ran a cop without a CDI and couldnt take it past 23 psi and maxxed out on the rollers at 478whp. I swithed back to the stock coil and can run 30+ psi no problem. The cop looks better to me, but who builds a dsm just for looks?

my opinion is stay stock until you spend a little cash to do cop right, if at all.

People should really be more specific exactly what TYPE of Coil they are using. But as said yes the common Intrepid/300m coils most people use with out a CDI there IMO is not really a point as has been said... .

I'd assume it's probably the same case for the GSXR coils (or whatever bike coils are used)?

I guess what I should have said is that some coils don't need a CDI because they have a built in ignitor an essentially an internal cdi module.
