ok i know that the COP thing has been mentioned before on here but i was wondering what coil did u guys use?

ps: this is mainly for those that it worked for...no offense but i really don't want to hear about all the other crap of them not working i only want to hear of what does work and please don't be smart and tell me the stock coils. Thanx

also i was planning on getting some from a junkyard and wanted to kno what the resistance specs are to check the coils...primary and secondary specs.

Thanx

Thanks blondie.

According to your profile you aren't boosted.

Why do you need more ignition juice on an N/A car? That's a waste of time and money.

Sorry to keep beating this on the head but i keep reading about all the problems everyone has and the dwell time thing so i just wanted to kno what really works, being besides the stock. Second thing is that I have a cold start issue. When ever the engine is cold sitting for more then 4-5 hours it just cranks and cranks. I'll let go of the key and crank again and get a putputter i'll let go again and a longer putputter and then eventually it will start after doing this game for about 5-10 min. then it revs up and down for about 5 min till it warms up. I figured that doing the COP might help...top it all I also figured that doing the COP would be easier and cheaper for the future maintenance. For our coil its about $180 and I'd rather spend 45 at most to fix it if one goes and not deal with plug wires and the voltage drop. I'm a cheap ass so i look for what's economical.

I don't what made you think that a coil-on-pack is the first thing to turn to when you haven't even began modifying your car. It's just a lost cause for you spending $500+ on COP unless you're push over 500-600hp when you could fix the problem for $10. Just change your spark plugs and gap them properly. It that doesn't solve the problem then replace the coil pack.

This is EXACTLY what happens when your coolant temp sensor (the two pronged one) dies. It's $26 at autozone. A COP setup will not help this issue at all.

OP- As long as the plugs aren't fouled, that's not an ignition issue.

I didn't even think of the coolant temp sensor.

You're completely right, symptoms are spot on.

i was looking to cut my spending on expensive parts like the coil pack...it cost somewhere in the range of $200 +/- $20

the plugs are new NGKs... I had the E3 plugs in there but took them out thinking it was them... the plugs have maybe 1K miles on them and i replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump cause it died on me and all in the last 2K miles.

on the sensor the wires were snapped when i got the car and when i got it it was late spring and early summer but this winter is the is the first winter i dove the car since i blew the trany in Aug. after i got it and didn't get a trany till a year later. I did fix the wires tho so idk i'm at a loss.
I did however have a broken exhaust pipe right b4 the muffler and thought it was that but i fixed it and still got the problem.

I plan on replacing the sensor but just incase any other ideas guys?

id do like they say check wires and good set of plugs gaped. my gsx when i bought had some cheap plugs ungapped and it ran so bad soon as a changed and wires it ran great

"$500" on a COP setup..........WHAT? I spent a total of about $45 on my COP. I used the coils of a dodge intrepid (can't remember what engine). It does not cost $500+. Or maybe I am reading your post wrong.

Also I didn't use anything like a DIS 2 and my car ran find.

Just find the coils at a junkyard for a couple bucks and search for the correct wiring diagram. It is simple to do.

Thanx rlacasse1 you actually gave me more or less what i was looking for....i was direct and to the point that all i wanted to kno was what did work. What i didn't want to hear "don't waste your time..." bla bla bla.....i am going to do it regardless what others OPINIONS are on this issue. I did not ask what you thought about the setup or what you thought about doing the setup but JUST what worked.

Like i said before...I have that cold start issue which i also got an answer on what my issue may be.
thank you dsmfa9nutter for also answering my question.

I also apologize for sounding like a jerk but all i was asking for was exactly what i was asking for and not all the additional BS

Thanx again for those that answered my question
