so i have a 93 laser and i know next to nothing about it or cars in general. it stopped going in to gear and i can push my clutch pedal straight to the floor and it still wont go into gear. i dont know where my master cylinder or slave cylinder is or how to check them. when i push my clutch pedal there is no resistance at all. the pedal just kind of drops. can someone explain what is wrong and what i need to do to fix it?

I had that same problem with my eclipse last year. It turned out that my slave cylinder was bad. Be aware that if either your master or slave cylinder is bad, it's best to replace both at the same time. My master cylinder quickly started leaking soon after I replaced the slave cylinder.

A fluke. One does not go bad just because the other did.

It's hardly a fluke, since it's a very common occurrence if you are using the original OEM master and slave. It doesn't take a lot of searching around to know this.

I was actually told the same thing when my slave went out, but I didn't listen.

Please explain to me why a bad slave/master would cause the other component to go bad as well. I want to hear your reasoning. "Just because" isn't good enough.
