maybe it's not an upgrade but the clutch in my STi is far softer than the clutch in my dsm. to shift in the subaru i hardly have to use any force to push in the clutch, on my dsm i get a workout just driving into town. I replaced my master cylinder a couple weeks ago because the old one started leaking, everything works great and feels the same, but im wondering if theres another master cylinder we can use to make the pedal a bit easier to push in?

Im not sure if there is a difference in pressure with the different bore. Believe the master cylinders between FWD and AWD have a slightly different bore that the rod travels in.

But as for an upgrade I haven't seen anything before. But I've yet to look.

Even the stock clutch is pretty tough for a stock car. I have a new master, slave and SS clutch all adjusted and works great but difently not meant for the soccer mom or super models.

LOL, maybe i exaggerated but a pedal thats a bit easier to push in. i didnt know if theres one from another car you could just bolt up and maybe the piston is a little bigger so it might be easier to push.

Stock DSM clutch is super easy, man up!

i would imagine if you can get the master cylinder to fit in the firewall and bolt up to the patteren with the same clutch line fitting you could run something different but thats just my theory. i would do some more research on it try the forum search or google LOL good luck.

I've driven way easier clutch's. This 2008 Mazda 3 I drove brand new felt wierd it was like pressng on a pillow was so light.

DSM's are on the tougher side but not much.

well other factors are the fulcrum and rod travel but i dont see them being too much of a problem. i'd like to try this with a similar CMC however i dont want to spend the $80 to do so. im going to search into this a bit more and see if there are some similar setups i might be able to use.

Obviously, a Mazda 3 doesn't exactly have a lot of torque.

The more torque, the stiffer the clutch.

I have the 2600 plus proper downshifting and it's no biggie to me but then again I eat my wheaties every mornin'! Sorry had to :D

Maybe I haven't driven it long enough to get annoyed...

Drove my Talon down Highway 1 to Stinson beach over the weekend through heavy traffic. After all that shifting with a 6 puck sprung disk, my left calf was a little pumped. If I could find a way i'd run a cable to my clutch! No more bleeding lines/master/slave cylinder blah blah or cramming under the dash to adjust the pedal. Just adjust cable to set engagement point= Drive! :D

this is pretty much my reasoning. PA drivers (sorry if that includes you) are pretty much stupid. Traffic around here in insane because of all the people that crash every day so im usually stuck in traffic and after 20 minutes of clutch, 1st, move 5 feet, clutch then back to nuetral, i may press the clutch about 30ish times until i take an alternative route. im pretty sure i have an ACT 2600 clutch as far as what my buddy who sold me the car said but i've never actually took the tranny off to look. dont get me wrong i rev match when i downshift and it's not a big problem, i really only use my STi for drag and such and i think i'd enjoy the DSM a little more if it were setup like my suby. but i guess thats why one cost 4x the other.
