gearbox breathers are a first line of defense against airborne contaminants. “The devices let the gearbox take in air as it cools while filtering water vapor and solid contaminants before they enter the fluid system. When gearboxes warm up, breathers should let air escape while keeping oil mist and splash inside.”

I think you'll be okay if you put gear oil in the hole for the breather. just get a new breather and install it with the correct sealant. just look down the hole and make sure that it didn't pool up in a way that blocks air from going in and out of the hole

I think it's worth mentioning you could use that hole to add fluid to the transmission however do not add fluid until it comes out of this hole. The fill hole is on the front of the transmission. That hole is also the level of the fluid. You add fluid until you can't add anymore through that hole. That is of course when the car is sitting on level ground. Does this make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. Thanks guys! I was really worried I did something wrong. I’ll locate the proper filler hole and makes sure I don’t have too much fluid in there. I think I put in about a 1/2 quart too much.

After a few times adjusting the clutch pedal, my car is officially back on the road. Drove around town a little to make sure everything was good before making the 30 mile drive to my house. Everything feels pretty good. Time to break in the clutch.

Thanks to everyone for all of your guidance! I love the wealth of information this site has!
