ok i just fixed my 97 Tsi that fried my turbo and the timing was off 7ft ROFL!...but my problem is when the car is idling there is a small ticking sound coming from the head area of my engine.i thought it might be the cams slapping gently LOL idk...but then i push down on my clutch and vwala :thumb: it goes away. but as soon as i release the sound comes back! :|.maybe bad motor mounts? any suggestions? i also have another prob that i think might be wrong with the tranny...it makes a horrible :barf: clicking sound when i accelerate in 2nd gear all others are fine any suggestions on that? and i believe i am having early problems with the master cylinder or the slave cylinder because some times when i let up on the clutch it will stick before poping back into place...any help with any of these would be greatly appreciated! thanks :)

When you say you hear a clicking noise, does this noise happens in neutral?, you said you changed timing components, maybe the sounds comes from the crank angle sensor? maybe the clutch is moving the crank a little? maybe crankwalk? i know crankwalk is OVERRATED but just taking it out of question anyway,

its the throwout bearings ( do not pay attention to it you should be fine if you do not fix it now) once you have a clutch change or a transmission JOb do it. but now i really do not recommned going there and pay a lot of money to fix it

good luck and try to adjust your clutch and let us know if this helps:thumb:

Make sure you are not hearing clicking coming from your lifters in your cylinder head. If you can confirm that it is not valvetrain noise, then you have other problems. Lifter tick is common, but not when you are driving around and hearing loud clicking in 2nd gear.

If you are experiencing a clicking or harmonic issue with ONLY one specific gear, while in that specific gear, it is likely a damaged gear.

Is there any noise in Neutral?
Is there any noise when you push the clutch pedal in?
Is there any noise when you push the clutch pedal in while in 2nd gear?
Is there any noise in any other gear than 2nd gear?
Is the clicking noise ONLY in 2nd gear?

If you answered No, No, No, No, Yes, you are looking at a damaged 2nd gear. Your transmission will require a rebuild. You likely chipped a tooth off or damaged multiple gear teeth on the gear. Either way, you have shrapnel sitting your transmission that can lead to more damage if left to wait too long.

If you are having clicking noises specifically coming from the transmission in Neutral, along with a specific gear (but not in some gears), you likely have a dead intermediate shaft tapered roller bearing, causing your gear clusters to separate from each other, leading to gearset damage.

This also requires you to get a transmission rebuild ASAP. You will likely have more damage than just a gear.

Either way, it is in your best interest to pull the transmission, and contact a professional transmission rebuilding shop for pricing and shipping information.
