It honestly doesn't really look much like a spring seat either though. See if you can get some better pics, and we'll figure out for sure what it is.

Currently I'm basing it off of what the mechanic did say. I had to stop in there to grab some stuff and took a quick picture. He showed me the spring where the seat was missing however. I dunno. I'll be back down there by Friday.

Did find out that my Autozone alternator was starting to crap out again and ended up failing the test cycle. On #4 now.

Well I decided to go with the Wiseco 1400HD pistons and un coated tops. Yeah I know, after all the talk on the thread, I decided and not to and discussed it with the vendor as well. They will perform well above what I'm going to be asking them to do for my power levels as long as my tune gets fixed. I don't need to be melting any more pistons . They should be here in a couple days.

The dot engraving will not create a hot spot. It has a maximum cohesiveness with the rest of the piston's surface.

Its not like its sticking out like your old piston valve relief area. That thin wall on the side of pistons creates high heat area on the old piston which results in melting of that area. long as the piston has thick wall, it can dissipates the heat evenly.

The stock piston also has the dimple area and it worked fine. It will not cause any problems.

The thing about this new wiseco piston(i notice) is that, they even light sanded the piston top. This also aids in higher production of power form the piston it self. The motor like pistons that have sharp edges removed on them vs the shiny ones.

Very nice. What is with the grove between the top and second rings? I noticed this when I was looking at some pistons the other day. Anyone know?

That groove is called an accumulator groove.

I was stuck between mahle and wiseco hd.. I think the choice is easier now, wiseco hd for me with scat rods. It's weird that the ring was stuck like that and didn't break or snap.. Is it possible it was assembled wrong from the get go?

I'm not sure as I didn't assemble it however the garage has done many performane engine builds for many platforms which include multiple Evos and DSMs.

When I was gettin more info from MAP on the Mahles for the differences between the model I used and the new revision they said for my goals to go with the HDs. Now aside from that they did say the Mahles are amazing pistons and if the Mahles won't cut it for the build then the HDs go in.

Oh and DSMReviver, I'm not talking about te single dimple. I'm referring to the actual dot engraving for the serial number on the piston top. The builder isnt even fond of the engraving either.
